Transmission again

Good morning everyone! I have a W124, 250TD and the problem is that when cold (not the weather but the engine and transmission), when I shift from P or N to D or any other forward gear, wait a second or two so that the tranny gets in to gear (which is normal) and then depress the gas pedal, I hear a clunk from rear, thud, the whole car shatters for a bit (as if it shifted really hard) and after then it gets in to gear and shifts perfectly. When I don't change to neutral the transmission works and shifts really well to my satisfaction. It's only when I shift to N and then back to any gear that the sound and shatter is felt. After a while's drive when the transmission warms up this problem disapperas and I can go between N and P and D without any thud at all. I know this is not supposed to be so and after a while it simply disappears yet, should I worry? What could the possible cause and remedy be? Thanks for your answers in advance, everyone will be treated with a beer or two:)

I have sort of a similar problem with my 1979 300CD, where it would shake but it also wouldn't really go at all until it warmed up. I took it to the transmission shop and they told me it was the tourque converter. It started out doing the same exact thing a few months ago and then one day it got bad. My advice would be to take it to a good transmission shop who have worked on a few Mercedes, and see what they would say. My shop didn't charge me anything to inspect the transmission.
