pretty sure you have a short... or some kind of obstruction to the flow of electricity which is making the fuse blow... try disconnecting the electricity to one door out of the two... then replace the fuse and see what happens....then it is just a matter of tracing it down systematically....or perhaps just rewiring around the original harness .... but check your ground for that part of the circuit....
The real question is why you would accept a free 240 with manual trans but power windows.... find a parts car and swap doors... then you will be on the path to tranquility.... ______________ 1980 240d manual trans, manual ac,manual windows, no sunroof |

Why don't you just pick up a complete set of manual window mechanisms? In about an hour and a half you could swap them out and never have another window problem. Easy as pie.

Power Windows
Hi,
Had identical problem in my '85 300D. Front passenger would blow fuse more often than not, rear drivers didn't work at all. Ol' dopey me . . . tried to tackle the problem by 'fixing' the front passengers - new regulator, switches, fuses . . . still blew. The problem was in the wiring going into the rear drivers door. Once that was replaced (kinda tight quarters) everything worked great. Real special treat now that the temp has been 100+ here in Lake County and the AC, at best, is marginal. Best regards, |

This may come as a surprise, but my manual window mechanism in my 240D driver’s side door broke at about 150K miles. Actually the failure was at the scissor joint in the window mechanism and not the crank itself, but the crank had worked loose and caused the scissor joint to fail. I managed to repair it creatively without spending any money, but remember thinking at the time that it would be nice to have electric windows.

I wonder what percentage of the time people with electric windows are able to fix them at no cost ? You have to admit they are less complicated than the electric windows.... and thus more reliable....
