1996-1999 E300 Seats
Has anyone been able to figure out why the drivers seats in the W210 E Class "clunk" whenever the car is stopping? And then again when the accelerator is pressed?? I've seen bits and pieces about it on this board...does anyone have the difinitive answer?
Thanks for any help. |

I've had to replace a few seat machanisms for this complaint, they get some play in the tracks and it's not adustable.
If you move the seat to the middle position and get in behind the seat from the rear door, and push on the seat backrest, with your other hand on the rails, you can feel the play. Gilly ps welcome to Mercedesshop!

That second fix is the one I'm talking about. If you check it out as I described you'll feel the play between the two rails. The one rail is essentially in a fixed position, the other one, the top one, moves forward and back with the seat cushion. I believe it was referred to as the power seat mechanism.

98 E300 here. Know exactly what you are saying... mine is under Starmark but it took two visits to get a fix. First visit was a "goodwill" repair of some sort of new lock down bolts under seat - no charge. (DRiver seat only) STill popped and cracked in turns and sometimes stops. Second visit was a more intense repair where rails and some sort of seat underkit were replaced. That DID THE TRICK !!! Had to pay for parts however. Since I had Starmark, they covered labor. If you want the part numbers for what was replaced, email me.
