I don't post often, but I check this site out almost every day. It has proven invaluable AND entertaining.

Thanks everybody,
Dan

ps. Maybe people are searching the archives for answers to questions...

pps. I guess if you really wanted to increase the traffic, starting another dino vs. synthetic oil thread would do the trick....or maybe the opposite.

I am very greatful I found this site. Only thing I regret is that you all have made me concious of stuff in the car, so I am a freak about things going bad. heh heh But it's not a bad thing to want your car to be absolutely perfect! I always enjoy reading posts and contributing. It's like a family here of people who all love their cars. Traffic isn't dying down, I actually feel it's picked up lately. On www.mbnz.org (changed names, but can't remember) I've recommended this forum to people. Mercedesshop.com is so much better than mbnz.org, forum wise. Theirs actually sucks pretty bad compared to this. That place is so cold towards diesels and 190s especially. 190s aren't loved here like 123s, but they aren't hated here! This place is a lot more helpful too. I can't say enough about this place! Thanks guys!

190D22, Possibly the reason there isn't much "love" for the 190 cars is probably due to the fact that everyone thought of it has a "baby Benz", for the people you couldn't afford a "REAL" Benz. Just as the reputation that the Porsche 944 got. I will have to admit that I was one of those at the time. However, since then and I am talking about the mid 80's, I have seen the error of my ways (thoughts). Since owning a Mercedes, I have an appreciation of any model that Mercedes built. It's not the size of the car that makes a Benz, a Benz. It's the quality and engineering that goes into them that makes them a Benz. I also don't "look down" at the 944s anymore either. That car literally had half of the V-8 that was in the 928. The 928 it'self wasn't appreciated either, because it was a water cooled, front engine car. The Porsche "purist" never did accept the 928.

Hey, Rick. We'll probably see you on the evening news on a report about building relationships between cultures. There you are in the midst of a throng of middle-east types, showing them how to clear their boost lines and adjust their ALDAs. You'll be covered up in goats as goodwill presents. The impact of this forum just continues to spread...

Hey P E H. Let us know if JB weld actually works. I think that one of their advertisements right on the box is fixing a cracked head. I wonder if it would really work; as I have had sketchy results with the stuff in the past. Nothing beats the holding power of a real weld. I gave up and bought an arch-welder two years ago.

I felt some 190 love today. A guy stopped me in a parking lot and we had conversation on my car. He had an 84 190D 2.2 as well. I like it because it is the baby benz: small, economical, and comfortable... also on the luxurious side.

My $0.02 about the 190. To begin with, I think MB was ahead of their time with this car. Look how much all cars have been downsized since 1983.

I think it was a very smart thing for MB to do. In Europe today, a 190 is actually a little on the large side.

I believe that if there is any negative connotation for the 201 cars it comes for two reasons; the car DID have some flaws the first year and being the least expensive car at the MB dealer it tended to find its way into the hands of many owners who could not afford to properly maintain it.

The general overall durability and reliability of these cars, I believe, is evidenced by the number of them that are still on the road in spite of this lack of maintenance.

M $0.02,

The last time I was over there, I saw alot of stretched W123s. Also alot of BMW 704 iLs and W140 Benzes. Actually the prevailing ride was Toyota Land Cruisers.
I will have access to the internet. Whether or not I'll access to this site, I don't know.
