Put an aditional 165,000 miles on you SLD and take a look at the plastic over the fog lights and around the main headlights. It will probably look as bad as mine. The plastic used on the stock U.S. w126 lights just doesn't hold up like glass.

P.E. Haiges,

You are SO correct! Mechanical failure is VERY rarely the cause of an accident, and "unapproved" equipment is almost NEVER a problem. Driver error is almost always to blame. Yet no effort is made to improve driver training at all. Now they're talking about giving illegal immigrants licenses!!! I'm speechless. Once again, "Your tax dollars at work...."

Oh, yeah...I prefer the look of the round lights on the old cars, even though the Euros do have superior illumination. If I had a Euro model, then I probably would want the "correct" Euro lights on it.

:)

Hellas

If your concerns are performance, and not the euro look, then I suggest converting to the round 7" Hella headlamps. The difference between the sealed beam units and the Hellas is amazing, like stadium lighting compared to a candle, quite frankly. Good for spotting deer in rural central VA.

I actually wound up buying the Bosch H4s and I concur, the results are amazing!

Just got the Hella 7 inch conversions for my 85 300D. What a difference for less than $100. Bought them at Olympic Inport Parts in Alexandria, VA. Had them in stock. They look better (flat face) and light so much better.

Hella

Hiya-

I bought Hellas for a 123 Merc and a quad set for an e30 BMW all at once from PUMA, and paid about ten bucks less each than what they go for at Perf. Products. I highly recommend this place- search through the website, and you'll find great Hella deals.

They have a great price. Would have used them, but neede to replace that day -- or buy a new sealed beam to then throw away. Now that I have the Hellas, would never go back to sealed beam.

I took my car to a Mercedes dealer to have it inspected as not many inspection stations inspect diesels in MA.
The guy had a board that looked like a headlight visual aiming board or something and my car passed w/o a problem but the headlights had been aimed correctly.

Has anyone used the Euro lights with a Xenon Bulb Conversion Kit.

Peyton300TD 10-07-2002 07:18 PM

a xenon conversion kit is possible.. but

on the euro lights i have heard people that were less than pleased with teh kit. the lense isnt designed for the xenon, so it refracts teh light. as you may notice on most real xenon lights, there is not lense to refract the light, instead a spherical focused beam.

instead i use PIAA Super Plasma bulbs which not only emit an intense light, the most intense for a halogen bulb, but look like Xenon. it's hard to tell in this photo though. $80/pair

then for the fog lights, i use PIAA Ion Crystal which emit the yellow wavelength super intense with a purple frame around it. the best all around fog bulb in my opinion.$25/pair

cheers
eric
