Smile S350 with 360,000 miles

Amazing!

Washington Post today had an ad for a 1995 S350 with 360,000 miles on it.

I tried to reach the owner to ask if it was an original engine - no answer ... if it was original, it may be the highest mileage 3.5L diesel in America!

Shoot, if it was replaced prior to 100,000 miles it may still be the highest mileage 3.5L diesel.

But in that ammount of time, it's definately highway miles. It's very hard to get that kind of mileage in the city. So even though it's got lots of miles, they are not the hardest miles the car has seen or will see. But that is pretty crazy! The original owner of my car put 5000 miles on it in the first month he owned it! But it's a fairly low miler (mostly city miles) at 141,600+. Cool find though!

I believe that once the engine has been factory rebuilt, the car is a nice one. We had one show up at the last meet. Very sharp car. I think that one was over 300K miles and rebuilt back around 100K.

For those of us here who were at the get together here in NJ, remember the gentleman who had a '95 W140 diesel from NY? He had some 320,000 miles on his engine. Though, he did have the #1 rod replaced at around 100,000. I remember when that car pulled into the parking area and saw it had 2 MB high mileage badges. I remember thinking there is no way that great looking car could have that many miles. Boy was I wrong.

Number in the Washington Post is 301.776.6251.

I continue to look for one of the last 140s with a blown engine so I can be absolutely certain it is replaced vice being rebuilt locally.

A W140 with a great 6 cyl td, to me, is likely the premier tourer I could imagine ... only fear is my tenure with one would be like the many horror stories of 140 owners on this site.

The premier tourer to me would be an S500 CDI (does it even exist?), or an S600 CDI. Great mileage, amazing power, and very smooth. I have always loved the 560SEL. The car is such a beatiful example of mercedes. Even by todays standards it still is a very luxurious car. It's just a boat! But definately a big S class diesel is the ultimate in comfort and economy.

There is an S400 CDI in Europe. I would give my firstborn child for it!

Well, I just turned 190,000 miles on the original engine in my 1995 S350. Only uses about 1 quart of oil every 3000 miles. Great car!

I agree with that...I made a trip to Cleveland yesterday...300 miles roundtrip...on a 1/3 of a tank of fuel....between 75 and 90mph the whole way....but besides the enigine there are many other issues that are common to all 140's.....but man I tell you driving it is like no other....had a friend tell me theother day it felt like he was riding in a plane the ride was so smooth...:-)

I have also seen a couple of high mileage ones on Ebay and such. I really would like to find out if it was on the original engine.

I've been looking for a starmark'd 1995 S350 TD. I never even saw one though.

BTW, a Starmark'd 1995 S600 just went for $23k on E-Bay!!!! I think that's a good deal! At least to enjoy it for a year..

wow...a starmarked S600 for that price...that was a steal!!

I have seen a few starmarked S350's with very low miles...BUT the dealers are asking(and apparently getting) a premium for these cars

what has really surprised me is how low the latter S320s(97-99)have gotten...I have several 97's for low 20's with about 65-70K miles....seems like a bargain for a car of that caliber

Yeah it sure was.
Here it is. I was trying to figure out if there is a catch to it but I can't see any.
Maybe it had been involved in a minor accident?

Still.. a steal at $23k w/ Starmark. Imagine that you could fix almost everything for free and by the time it gets off Starmark you'll have the best limo in the world

Actually it's about $6k cheaper than Edmunds says it should be even with the certification. Now since it has a warranty, it becomes a very good deal. I'm guessing these things will become much cheaper when gas becomes more expensive.
