"free butt massage"

My 84 300D is suddenly shaking at stops. It does this intermittently. Can someone please tell me what is happening...before I really start enjoying this peculiar vibration. At a few stops today, i had some time to put it in "P" thengive the engine a quick rev, put it back to "D" then the shaking disappears? Your inputs are well appreciated. God Bless. PS. I HAD THE VALVES ADJUSTED RECENTLY...COULD THEY HAVE

sounds like theres a good possibility that your engine mounts maybe coming apart or even quite possibly the engine shocks.

what I would do is take a look at both of these items they will be pretty center with the engine under the injection pump on the drivers side and under the turbo on the passengers. the shocks are about 4-5" tall and should have a oval type clamp on top see if the bushings have come undone or deterated also check for the same on the mounts you may have to plave a jack with a block of wodd under the engine and raise to find out if the mounts are going bad. should be pretty sturdy...

These sites list TSB's that have been issued... some might include your car and the shaking at idle....

Sounds like your rack dampner screw. It's on the back side of the injection pump. Loosen the locknut, and turn it in, while the engine is shaking, until it stop shaking. That sould be maybe 1 turn inward. Tighten the locknut and your good to go.

engine shaking

You might also want to try bleeding the fuel system, using the manual pump and loosening the fuel filter screw. Did they change the fuel filters as well ? Any air in my 240d makes it shake like hell....

I have similar shakes too. i have ruled out filter, air in fuel line, loose hand pump, broken air filter housing mounts etc.
Now its finally to the engine mount. They look a bit rotten. Nothing like totally gone. I still have to check the engine shock mounts. The shocks looked fine.

I am waiting for few days off so I can do that. I am very sure that changing the engine mounts will make a big difference. So I will start with that.

Most probably a fuel flow issue. The Rack Damper Pin allows for consistent fuel flow at idle - probably the simplest adjustment to start with, but it really sounds more like crud in the fuel system. Algae is a bad prob with these barges. Poor fuel quality often means water. Water spawns the dreaded algae, balh, blah - yadda,yadda... crud in the system. Somtimes serious dose of the right additive can do the trick. Most likely you need to clean out tank, including screen, lines and install new filters.

My 300 SD starting doing the same thing shaking so bad that your whole body would vibrate...I did a leakdown test and discovered a burnt exhaust valve. Went in (head overhaul) and also needed a turbo...smoking bad. Engine smooth as silk now....303K and counting
