Back Home
Got back home just before 11:00am this morning. This car is going to be a blast to finish and drive.
Thank you very much Bill for giving me the heads up. Thank you Jay for the all too brief visit to a VERY beautiful place. This car attracts all kinds of attention. I had alot of chatter on the CB from truckers, and every time we stopped, at least one person had to come over and ask about the car - even at 03:00am. Pictures to follow: |

WOW!!!! Ain't that a nice lookin' Benz?!
If I saw one like that in such a shape I'd pull over and talk to the owner! Great car! Congratulations! Does it use 7" sealed beams? Maybe you could use Cibie's 7" E-Code headlights with H4's? How does it sound? I would love to hear a recording of the engine at idle and driving away! I wonder what it's like compared to say.. a 300D Turbo.. (not speed wise...)

I didn't notice any vibration. The passenger compartment is extremely well isolated in that regard. The big thing is noise. It rivals my old Datsun diesel in that category.
Yup, they're 7" headlights. I need to get the wiring issue (I think it's a bad ground somewhere) taken care of before I put any thought into converting to H4's. I do want the car to be as original as possible though. |

Bill, the car is a BLAST!!! The car doesn't know what a bump is. Even on my washboard dirt road, there is literally no motion transferred to the interior. Those Germans know how to make a car ride.
Column shift is immediately intuitive after being shown only once by Jay. I have absolutely no problem moving to the column to shift vs. the floor shift. The car is LOUD once you get it moving. I was going to hide a stereo system in it, but am rethinking that one. The cars seat of the pants performance belies the advertised 0 to 60 times. I never once felt like I was going to be in fear of getting run over. I have only driven it a couple of miles though. I need to get the headlights and speedometer fixed so that I can get it to pass inspection. I also have a set of unissued 1959 TX plates coming soon that I'm going to register to the car. If you want, I can keep an eye out for a set of 65 plates for yours. You would not believe the attention that this car gets. You have a gorgeous finnie Bill. Now you have one more reason to get on your mechanics case so that it'll be ready for the November shindig. Our two cars NEED to be parked side by side in November. |
