Let's see,
I think it was a cast-in diamond shape on the yoke of the u-joint. Anyone with experience doing flex disks shouldn't make a mistake. Have you discussed it with the shop? Ie- it now has a vibration? Maybe the transmission wasn't centered or the drive shaft cocked a little when things were tightened up. Balancing. I'm sure if you find some older car books -this will be described. Using two hose clamps close to the differential(we're talking in the one=piece world right now). Have the two clamps where the screw's are 180 degrees apart perfectly. This won't change the balance. Then rotate them say 30 degrees and drive the car. Mark the starting point... go and find the place the driveshaft seems sweetest. Hope it helps... Michael |
Thanks
May give this trick a try next time I'm "foolin'" with my cars. Regarding flex discs issues, any changes were prior to my ownership. On the 240 they are cracking (small hairline drying out type) so perhaps this is my problem. I do almost all my own work so I may just replace both (for "fun") to see if there is any improvement.
Will also check the driveshaft alignment as well. Thanks for the help. Phillip. |

Was it worth rebuilding, with 20/20 hind sight, or would you swap it today? |
