Just got my '79 Labor Day weekend. Once it gets up to speed, it cruises perfectly on my commute to/from work. 220,500 miles and hopefully more....It's keeping the miles down on my other vehicles.

It just keeps rolling along.

1982 240D, 4 Speed, 230k. It gets 28 mpg on my 11 mile daily commute to work.

Mine is in semi-storage right now. I run it about once a month. It will be going to college with my oldest next fall. Runs awesome and probably has 300k on it judging by the worn steering wheel. The odometer says a little over 100k but I doubt it.

My sig lists the car. It's set aside for now to work on the 190Db since that one needs less work. It runs after you spend enough time repriming the fuel system through a defective primer pump (dumps fuel everywhere). It drives as long as you take the time to stop every 10 miles or so and dump in another quart of ATF.

Plans are to resurrect the 240D and drive it daily to work.

My first was a '77 with manual transmission. It went 280,000, miles.

My second and the one I still have is an '84 Euro with manual transmission. It currently has over 500,000 miles and needs the engine finished and put back in. I plan on getting to this one day, just because the car is such an old friend.

During the time I was driving the '84, my wife had an '80 with manual transmission for awhile then got a 300TD.

I also have an '80 Euro parts car.

IMHO, for their time, they are the best car ever built. Not the fastest, best handling, nicest riding, but the most long lived and all around good car.

My $0.02,

I too am lucky to have been bit by the 123 bug. I am on my third, a 1982, 4-speed manual, manual windows and simple as can be. I have 248,600 so far and no where near done.

A/C remains a mystery with everything else working as or better than designed.

cheers

This is my second 240D. My sig says 88K miles, but I'm up to about 105,000 now. Car is near perfect. Great commuter car.

My 1983 has 238,000 on it .I bought it last Feb ,and put 14,000 on it since then. Auto trans, Ac, sunroof, I have done a few things like repairing the odometer, replacing center drive shaft bearing, adjusted the valves and more . I would like to get a shortwave in dash radio for it, other than finding and repairing the vacum leak, and doing all regular maint I drive it every day. It is the best old car I ever had. Hans.
