300CD Roll Call
I noticed that the 240D owners have their own roll call, so I thought I would start one for us 300CD owners.
1979 300CD, Milan Brown Metallic Clearcoat |
I got one... was initially ready to buy just about any 1980 MB. Then I found the W123 Coupe and I had always wanted one ever since I saw a black 230CE (I didn't know it existed)
Big things that need fixing... sunroof, left rear quarter window, and some rust. My friend took the picture a while ago while we were rolling in traffic on Rt.9 going back to Boston. She actually took a decent shot I thought it was going to be blurry or something. I guess those disposable cameras aren't bad afterall. http://people.bu.edu/holson/cd.jpg it's an Anthracite Gray '83 300CD-T |

Aw, I didn't see this thread. I don't have a picture of my 'new' CD, but here's a pic of my old one. Both are 1985's, CA versions. Past one was Nautical Blue/Parchment, new one is Astral Silver/Black.

Oh, I did find a few pictures. This was taken just after I rescued it from the PO. I posted this pic in another thread. The wheels are black because the chrome came off the wheels and the break dust is embedded in the metal. I had to trash them and got 4 others. Also check out the TD muffler. Looks much better now.

Finally a beautiful day to end the weekend. It rained for three straight days and I didn't drive my car at all just sitting in the garage (I washed it the day before it rained!! )
I thought with all that sun the pics would come out great... I guess my photography skills suck :( http://people.bu.edu/holson/1.jpg http://people.bu.edu/holson/2.jpg I'm guessing that the pics wouldn't be so washed out if I had taken them later during the day. However I didn't have time and headed for a drive! Everytime I drive it, it brings a smile to my face :D When I do I always forget what some people say "Sell that old car and get a new one.." I went to a mall filled with Mercedes, BMW, Audis, etc. and ONE Bentley Red Label! I thought the diesel looking all clean and stuff presented itself rather well :) |
'83 Astral Blue Coupe...
Featured in current Mercedes Enthusiast article on "American" diesels. Pretty car bought in Texas from a less than forthright former owner, the car has required over $4k to get it street legal...but is rust free, different, and now should go another 10 years w/o any more major attention. Day photos shot for article was hot the way only Washington can be in summer, and couldn't take chance engine would start again if shut off, so ran for five hours. Differences from my trusty 240 include "slow" windows/sunroof and of course the barn-size doors.
Holson...I LOVE the anthracite on yours, and on MBs in general. A lawyer fellow here in DC had a '65 VW done over in flawless anthracite...maybe the classiest example of a "reverse" status symbol I've ever seen. |
We finally got one!

Thanks. I know that 93K is nothing at all. My dad had an 85 TD wagon that he sold about 2 and a half years ago with 210K. He currently owns an 85 300D with just over 127K. If there's one thing I love the most, that'll be MB Diesels'. I've been around them since my dad bought the wagon in 1987, when I was two. I've always like the body styling of the 123's and especially the coupes, so I had to get one for myself. I even got some extra rims for the car from the PO. In her garage she had a 99 E300 Turbo and was going to sell it when MB comes out with their new Diesel's in the US. |
300cd's
I also have a 300Cd. It is silver with blue interior, an '81 with 115K miles. I'll have to take a picture and post. It is in excellent condition. Everything works. I love the car.

I have an 84 300CD, a lot like this one in the pic, but this one isn't mine. Mine's the same color, but this one's a euro version. I've got tinted windows, too, but other than that, it's the same car with 213k on the clock. I really should take some pictures of it, though.

85 CD...windows down, sunroof open...radio playin' some forgotten song...oh, sorry...the darn thing leaks into the back floorboard when it rains...rubber around the windows has a gap about where the front and rear windows meet, but I digress...hey, I had a problem with the sunroof in the 83 300D and disassembled the control switch, cleaned it and it worked...imagine that, repairing a part instead of just replacing it...what will those Germans think of next? :D
|
I still need to get the pictures of my 300CD posted, I might get around to doing it sometime in the next few weeks. I just need to take some pictures in good lighting, all the ones I have right now are in bad lighting so it makes the car look bad.
mike riemann, I pulled my sunroof switch out and cleaned it, and it made my sunroof open better, but it won't close it anymore. You are lucky that you were able to get your sunroof to work again. |
You know those sun roofs have a clutch in them and often when they do not close its because the clutch is slipping.. Just adjust it.. In the rear where you run it by hand.. screwdriver in the slot.. adjust the clutch with a wrench on the nut..
