Question Engine vibration damper????

Hey Guys,

does anyone happen to know what this engine vibration damper thing is and where it might go?
It looks like a hooked "T" with the cross section being made of rubber, {for sway??} 2 bolt holes on the very ends and in between the bolt holes to the steel bracket{center of the "T" } is a thick peice of hard rubber {looks like a pillow}
Fast lane used to sell this but no longer {maybe a bogus part} this part was under the engine section with the mounts and stuff I bought it and now have no place to put it or so I can't find a place and like everything else is non-returnable so I'm stuck with it. this was for an 83' 300 sd if it will not go on my car and somebody can use it I'll be happy to let you have it. sence it's not doing me any good sitting around collecting dust

thanks,

Jeff

sounds to me like you are describing what the dealer called the "anti-dive mount". The mercedes manual calls it the "engine stop". It keeps the engine from bobbing up and down too much. there is a bracket which mounts to the frame - the rubber stops go into that and the other end bolts on the engine.

Mine is a 123 body, but I think the engines are the same. It is up front, there is a big frame crossmember that goes across about the middle of the engine. just behind the oilpan is the big frame part. in the middle is a 2(?) piece mount, the top is flat, the bottom is sort of U shaped. the anti dive mount bolts in between these 2 parts, the mounting holes on mine had bushings so that when you tightened it down the 2 rubber blocks were centered in the mount. the other end bolted to the block. basically the thing limits the engine and transmission from pivoting up and down like a pendulum with the transmission as the pivot point.
