Helga is for sale, $500! needs short block

240 D FOR SALE, $500! california car! needs short block
My beautiful Helga is for sale. (1980 240D ) Needs a short block.
I just finished a valve job, new chain, gasket- and it still has low compression on no. 1.
I found that there is a depression in the side of the cylinder wall, just above the piston ring. It looks like a dimple the size of a dime and occurs on nos. 1 & 4 only. I figure that the dimple got large enough on #1 to make the rings leak. The engine misses at idle and of course blows unburned fuel out the exhaust, but seems to fire at highway speeds. Weird.

Anyway, before I donate it to St. Vincent de Paul, I am offering it for $500. Firm.

It has virtually new interior, good paint and suspension is great.

Automatic, and MB Tex interior, seats have been rebuilt, and has door pockets!!! New headliner, sun visors, no sunroof.

NO Rust of course, anywhere. Straight.

Replaced a noisy half shaft with a good used one, brakes excellent. Trans excellent. Cruise doesn't work, and neither does the AC (duh...)

I'd try and talk my girlfriend into it except that I'm guessing you want it gone PDQ and she's dealing with some financial issues right now. Find a nice 617 turbo to drop in there... *drooling*

However, I thought the engines could be resleeved...? Or is that just the 617?

Unhappy

Going to Tulsa tomorrow to pick up 300SD I bought from hillbilly. If this was a little closer, would swing by and pick it up. LOL
Why do the good ones have to be so far away?

Dammit, why are all the good deals lately on the west coast??!

I'd be all over it if I was closer to you.

240D body for 2.2L drivetrain????

If you still have it, will my 2.2L engine fit in there? My 190D was crashed into, with a new engine and clutch!!! Looking for a body that will work with the new drivetrain. I know the tranny is identical to the trannies used in the 240Ds, I'm just wondering how easily the 2.2L engine will fit in????

I live in SW Montana, off the I-90 and could tow it with truck.

Well, are you planning any trips soon to Montana by pickup truck with tow? Would love to find out more about it.

Late nite, and have company from SC now, so, will get back soon.

Please reply.

Vicki

240 needs engine?

Is it still available? My neighbor bought one for his daughter with new engine. She crashed it and he's thinking of picking up yours to drop her engine into. He's here in SW Montana, she's in Oregon. He's been trying to get hold of her to no avail, but will soon. let me know the status of the 240D.

Thanks

Helga will probably go to be donated next week if I don't hear from someone soon.

She is driveable to Montana, she smokes and misses one cylinder at idle, but clears up at speed.

She starts very well due to a new chain and new primer pump, plus I cleaned all the injectors (took them apart, easy!), and made sure all the glow plugs were okay. she needs a glow plug fuse, but is "hot wired" to start up. (I bridged the fuse with a wire as a temporary fix.)

The chassis has about 132K miles on it, and has been well taken care of. She had a repaint about 5 years ago and shines well, just some stone chips here and there.

My girlfriend ran out of $$, unfortunately...sounds like a beautiful car.

piccolovic, just wondering, if your neighbor's daughter decides to go for it, how are they gonna get it up there?

would have to drive it. Daughter is in Eugene Oregon, and he still needs to talk with her and insurance co. is still dickering, so . . . he can't make any decisions until he discusses it with her. I would imagine, he'd want to drive it back.

dang . . . if its driveable, I may follow up on this myself, at least to get it here, until I can find out how easy/hard to install my 2.2L.

How's the interior??? Does/did it have A/C?
