92 300SD Insturmnet Cluster

The instrument cluster on my 92 300SD displays many colorful lights and resets itself when the windshield washer button is diplayed or the intermittent wipers are on. I believe there is a fault in the instrument cluster that causes this. I have heard that the cluster needs to be replaced, but I do not want to replace a defective cluster with another poor designed defective cluster.

Has anyone else replaced their cluster and with which part? I am am aware that Programa sells a rebuilt cluster, I am curious if anyone has had success with this repair and the course of action they chose?

That problem is related to the "mother" board in the cluster & IS a very common failure. NOT difficult at all to replace, but removing the old cluster can be a pain if its been there a long time. Many times the outer facing glass can be broken in the removal tool slips.
