Vacuum Pump.....The plot thickens....
Well,
Tore into the vacuum pump. Valves OK, Diaphram OK. However, the hex bolt that holds the diaphram evidently backed out and punched a hold in the housing that holds the vacuum valves. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, I cleaned it up, fit the missing piece back in and have applied some JB-Weld. Wish me luck JCD PS, if this works,,,,,,I will graduate from village idiot to village genius. JCD |

So did my dad when he replaced the diaphram
As a matter of fact, I bought some today when I thought I had an easy job on my hands.
This JB-weld should do the trick. It is an epoxy with a max temp of 600 Deg F and a tensile strength of 3960 lbs. At least......I hope it does. JCD |

JCD:
If you got the aluminum clean, the JB weld should work. It is holding the coolant in my cracked (frozen with water in it) M117 engine nicely, at least so far. Wonderful stuff. The kit I got for my 220D vac pump (never installed) has a little tube of locktite in in for the screw. Peter

Thanks for the confidence builder...fellow hoosier
PSFRED,
Quite frankly, after the JB weld application, the "housing" looks like it was made that way. My dad said his buddy repaired a hole in the cylinder wall of an outboard engine a few years ago and the engine still runs like a top. Pretty cool and bullet proof stuff. FYI, I got it at Walmart. How have the races been at Haubstat. Man, I miss sprint car racing in this horrible state of NJ. JCD |

Haven't been to the Haubstadt track for ages -- we can hear them outside on calm summer nights, though! As far as I know, they are still running -- gave someone directions today, in fact, while getting gas for the sawmill. Peter

JCD,
Good Job! My one experience with JB Weld was to repair a clutch slave cylinder that was cracked at the bleed fitting. It lasted about three years then let go without warning. For what it was it bought me a lot of time. With luck you'll get the same result, just don't consider it a permanent fix.
