Unhappy diesel deodorant?

Any tried and true remedies for fuel odors in trunk area of my '82 240 D? I'm afraid the nasty aroma may seep up to the cabin!! Does anyone know if those so-called "volcanic crystal" bags work?? Thanks.

The thread is pretty much right on

I had some leak in the trunk. I have no carpet, which I am sure I would have had to pitch.

My solution was to use Dawn dishwashing detergent and then follow up with Simple Green.

Smell disappeared.....Good luck

Is the odor from spilled diesel or from the exhaust? I had the same problem with mine. I took all the carpet and panels out, washed carpets, panels and the complete inside bare metal trunk with simple green. I still have the problem of diesel exhaust smell, even though the trnk & carpet are totally clean.

All the remedies seem to cover diesel spill, and they do work good, but what of exhaust. Letting the trunk air out is fine but it doesn't solve the problem of the exhaust getting in in the first place.

diesel deodorant

Taxman--yes,the odor is from the exhaust, somehow. There was no actual spill or fuel itself in the trunk. Thanks to all for sharing remedies!

I have the same problem. The tailpipe seems to be too short. I've also thought the trunk seal may be faulty. I even checked for holes in the bottom of the trunk and still no solution. Let me know if you find the cure to stopping exhaust getting in the trunk!

Switch to Biodiesel!

have you heard about Biodiesel(yeah, yeah don't give me that)? I am sure that all the Euros have. It is required at most pumps in some fasion or another to reduce emissions (they always are way ahead, think meteric) As a matter of fact VW won't release the new bigger TDI because American Dinodiesel is so poor! I say support, buy(we can even buy it at some pumps here), or even better make your own Biodiesel(a little vegetable oil, a little potash, a little alchohol and viola!). It will truly turn your diesel into a "million mile car". Just think of it, what did Diesel design the engine for? No more Black smoke or soot! No more pollution!(well 70% less particulate and 90% less toxicity) No bad smell! More POWER!(a 10%higher cetane level) Smother, hence quieter, hence not rattling the bolt out of their threads, and everything just has a coating of light oil when broken down(NO CARBONIZATION!)
