Thanks Peter, good advice, start at the beginning instead of the end, I would hate to break the cable when the problem was a lack of lubrication.

I havent been on this forum for a while, but this thread is really helping to fix the sunroof in my dad's car, which i will drive in the summer. As for the lube, i went up to RAB Motors in San Rafael, they wanted $60 for the can, but Stead Motors in Walnut Creek gave me a film canister of the stuff, as well with a few parts i needed. It's complicated, and i can't seem to get the new lifter slides in, the old ones slip and slide in place, but the new ones are a PITA to put in. Any suggestions?

They just rotate in, believe it or not. I fought them for 20 minutes, only got one in, my brother walked up and flip, in it went.
Helps to hold your mouth right, I think. Also, they will only go in at the closed position, I think -- about the center of the track. New ones are much harder to get aligned just right that old ones. Peter

All I got to say, you are the sunroof GOD psfred. I just used a flat-head screwdriver to help coax the lift angle in the channel, and it just rotated in place, just like you said. A bit of gleitpaste on the rails, and they went in smoothly.
