THE CAR DRIVES STRAIGHT
Not to rain on your parade but 9 times out of ten when they say this it means it's been in an accident. Just trust the Tank, do a vin check 1st! Also, I do not think the seats are leather. It's my guesstimation they are mbtext. Not a bad lookin car though in my "o"

I wouldn't buy this car either; I have a bad feeling just from looking at it. It concerns me that the seller is selling it after buying it at an auction a week previous, and is trying to dump it off on someone on eBay. I agree with bill, that it would make a great beater. It would be fun to take a car like that, and enter it in a demolition derby.
I forgot to mention that I have seen worse, I looked at one at a dealership, and they wanted over $4,000, and this one was in way worse condition.

It may seem like a good deal, but for maybe a $1000 more you can find one in much better shape. You would probably put over $2000 in this particular one, to get it into the shape of one that you buy for maybe $2500 or $3000. I am sure the seller did get scared at 80mph; I get scared in my 300CD, when I get it up to around 100mph. I did 80+ mph on I-90 during a hard rain storm and didn’t get scared, actually I was racing a newer BMW, and he kept slowing down.

MICHAEL J,

Take the advice, but don't let a couple of old-timers make the decision for you. They haven't actually seen the car so it's anybody's guess until then and doing the vin-check on it. Just be prepared to shell out a few thou more in repairs. These guys know what they are talking about. But that doesn't mean you couldn't restore it like I did mine and make it a real nice car.

ps why scared at 80mph??sdl did 115 mph before I hit traffic and wasn't scarey??

Michael J,

I was able to find and purchase a '82 300SD in the St. Louis area for $1,800 from a private individual. The owner thought the transmission was bad. As it turned out, it only had a clogged orifice in the "T" connector on the main vacuum line. The car had 136K on it. The interior leather is in great shape and every thing works on the car except the ACC. I am presently trying to troubleshoot this item. The PO kept excellent records of his maintenance on the car and did not try to hide anything.

I would keep looking and try to purchase a car from a private individual. Look for someone that kept maintenance records.

Good luck

You guys are fickle. I think the car looks great. I would bid on that car. It doesn't matter how good the deal though, I would drive before I got serious about the price. From what I saw, it looks like a good deal.

MICHAEL J,
Be careful, it sounds like some of these other "posters" are trying to scare you off so they can get it!!

(I'd do the same if I was in FL!)

I personally would never talk down a car to a person, so I can buy it from underneath them. Plus the shipping costs to get it from Florida to Washington State would be more than half the price of the car, which would make it way to uneconomical for me.

123c,
I am sorry but I think you are somewhat of a jerk. You post once saying that you would like to take that car and use it in a demo derby. Then you back out and say that the purchase would make it way too economical for me. I would make a bet that you could pick that car up cheaply, put a little money into it and it would last for quite sometime.

All I said is that I would think it would be fun to take a car like that one and enter it in a demolition derby, not that exact on in Florida.
As for being uneconomical for me, yes I consider purchasing anything that would be more than a two day or two drive away being to far away.
I figure that with the money I could save in shipping costs could go into repairs. I figure that shipping costs would run at least $800. If I purchased that car and flew to Florida to pick it up, a one way ticket would be at least $200 and fuel would be several hundred and food and lodging would be several hundred more.
I am sorry that I come off as sounding like a jerk, but I give my honest opinion, and sometimes my opinions change day to day.

It's ok to change your opinion! On this forum sometimes people speak or type "on the fly." I mean, sometimes I have responded out of the emotion of the moment too. That's ok though, plenty of us are entittled to our good days, bad days and moody days. This is all part of the forum experience in my opinion. I don't think you can determine that someone is a jerk based on one post or even one thread. But of course that too is just one mb owner's opinion and I respect each and every one of your's as well.
