Thumbs down Y'all should quit hitting on that crack pipe!

And I mean that in the nicest way!
You guys sound like you are straight from the Bush administration's Energy cabinet! Where do you get this propoganda and misinformation. ( Just as a little side note, My mother as well as a whole local populace was given cancer by a little "friendly" release of radiation. They just wanted to check on dispersal patterns, well it dispersed allright, right through her and everyone else's body. So far they have removed her uterus, ovaries, small intestine and part of her large (they had to stop there or put on permanent IV). It is througout her entire body and there is nothing they can do. She is one of thousands. There are a couple of class action lawsuits, but maybe my great granchildren will get a buck eighty($1.80) out of it when it is settled (you ever try to sue the Government or the Nuclear big boys). The issue is storing the waste. we are guaranteed to poison this planet with current storage technologies. We need to figure out how to neutralize the waste before we create more. Although this might be a moot point if the Son of a Bush starts world war III for Daddy!

On the recycling side, we have out here in California one of the most advanced resource recovery centers in the world in our county. They separate everything that comes in from every house hold and every construction site/project in the county. There is no other choice, this is our dump. Aplliances are dimantled all metals separated and processed, dirt and concrete and rocks are separated and cleaned and remixed into compost, soil, road beds etc. All green waste is mulched and used or put in a separate green landfill, trees and limbs are cut and dried and sold as firewood. It is only after everything else is processed out that the remainder goes into a typical landfill.
This has made the owner a multi billionaire. The only thing they can't readily recycle is non conforming plastics and plastic bags. Now if all plastics were mandatorily recycleable we would be in good shape. We have now reduced county waste by 75% and we are trying to get even better. Clothing manufacturers like Patagonia are taking the plastics and making "polar fleece" clothing with it. Other people are bailing it to use as insultion in buildings or directly building "Straw" bale houses. We are living proof that it not only works, but is extreamly profitable. It would seem that you guys just have either lazy or more likely crooked garbage collectors where you live.

I won't even begin to send you guys links to IDEPENDENT data (as in studies not funded by the nuclear energy commission, or the oiligarchy) it would take too much time which I don't have right now and you guys can search it out yourselves. remember to look at who was sighning the paychecks for those studies (remember when "scientific" studies showed smoking to be harmless?)

Look Out! there is a terrorist behind every Bush!

Have a nice day!

Hi guys, just thought I'd throw this in to the mix. What would you think of a hybrid diesel/electric that could take a Vette off the line and prolly in the 1/4 mile, have a range of 600 miles, and take the Vette in the slolom? Well this very car exists and is the L3 hybrid built by the students at SDSU's engineering dept. (I'm an ME student at SDSU) This is only the first shot at it. This car has a 90hp turbo VW diesel motor and a 200hp elec with two really gnarly capacitors to get those 1/4 mile times up. It has 50/50 weight distribution. It's fast and handles great. If it had more than two speeds it could prolly take the vette in top end for a short distance. It has more goodies too like a carbon fiber composite body and other stuff to make it light. As it is, the teachers will upon occasion take it out and with only the electric running, straight smoke the tires. They can go 45mph, cut the wheel to lock and it just whips around.

The next gen is to have, are you ready, a 200hp diesel and a 600 hp electric motor, all wheel drive, hold on 'cause you are going to go real fast like. There's other stuff too. As soon as I get some more classes under my belt, I'm getting on the project.

It seats two.

Frank.

GO AZTECS! Did my undrgrad degree there back when it was San Diego State College, and had 5000 students! (where I started learning about Ecology, Radiation Biology, Radiochem, Energy Dynamics, etc from info that was not written to either the Nuc industry OR the Greenpeace agendas - it was called peer reviewed scientific publications from mainstream journals.) They had the nucleus (pun) of a good engineering department back then, so not surprised at what they are working on now!

Electric 4 wheel drive

How about an electric 4 motor 4 wheel drive, one seperatly controllable motor for each wheel, mounted out of the way for inifinate clearance and travel

Biosmell- if I'm an agent for Bush admin, you are a misinformed, naive NorCal poster child bamboozled by Clintinistas empty promisses and feel good idiotic policies. Not your fault (except maybe San Andreas - a little geo joke!), since 90% of Californians live in a Lalaland anyway. Gaia, one with nature, etc. I'd suggest you talk to millions of people with cancers due to living too close to the coal power plant ( check any former Eastern European country - speaking of which, travelling through California was like going home to me). Ask that billionaire Dude how much energy does he CONSUME recycling.

I STRONGLY suggest you read Larry Nivens "Fallen Angels" - a Sci Fi book about how stupid policies aimed at curbing greenhouse gasses resulted in a new ice age- and Nven is a LIBERAL!

I HOPE Dubya will finish what these two idiots could not (hey, didn't Clinton promised to be out of Kosovo in a year-in 1992???). Instead, they cuddled terrorists, made CIA from a spying agency into a world cop (thus no intelligence on 9/11 - Bubba did not like to pay criminals(gasp) for information-sorry, Al Qaida did not recruited boyscouts) and tried to unite people of the world a la Karl Marks. But then again, I would not accuse THAT administration of doing anything intelligent- After all that moron Gore warn that gasoline grass mowers cause climate change-pretty arrogant for a member of a specie that was around for a blink of an eye in geological terms.

At last we have a president that does SOMETHING rather than TALKING and feeling my pain.

As to recycling-to what extent do you suggest we do this? You CANNOT recycle at 100% rate. so, as I said before, instead of solving THE problem, we prolong the agony and squander resources on stupidity.
I.m sorry, but I still do not understand why Americans want to feel guilty about everything?? Being biggest and best came at a price and your grandfathers probably turn in their graves right now.

As to the new source of energy in cars- as long as they perform as the current cars-I'm all for it. Hell, I'll even pay more for'em. But I refuse to buy in into half-assed ideas just to say " I'm saving the world"!! We are not (read, not see on TV, the Jurassic Park-Dr. Malcolm have an interesting monologue on how insignificant anything we may do is as compared to the natural processes , and Michael Crichton has my deep gratitude).

Sounds good to me. I have an '89 4runner that sees a lot of trail time. I'd dedicate it for a test bed any day!

Biosmell,

First, I'm VERY sorry to hear about the situation with your mother...

However, coal as a power source causes FAR more cases like hers than nuclear power EVER has, as Piotr has already pointed out! No one is saying nuclear is perfect yet, but it is far more efficient and clean than coal, and has infinitely more potential for further development than wind or solar.

No offense, I do not mean this personally towards you or any of our west-coast guys here, but MOST of the propaganda and misinformation that I encounter COMES from enviro-nazi liberals in KALIFORNIA!!! The world is not falling apart, we are NOT running out of resources, and the sky is not going to fall anytime soon! Two decades ago, all the same "scientists" that are now crying about global warming were worried about global COOLING and the impending new "ice age"! We even studied and read about it when I was in grade school science class! Now they think humans have inadvertently reversed that "problem" and are causing global warming instead, in a mere 20 years or so? In case you didn't hear about it, the infamous "ozone hole" has gotten SMALLER lately, with no "help" from us all-powerful humans! Science has not been studying the atmosphere or environmental conditions ANYWHERE NEAR long enough to understand and anticipate all of its long-term cycles and changes, all of which will be proven to be far more immune to our influence than we are led to beleive lately. Where did all the Democrats and Greens in CA get the idea that they are so "environmentally enlightened", and should dictate the behaviour of the rest of the counrty based on their paranoid interpretation of "data" from a study conducted by some group of researchers with the exact same paranoid agenda?!?!

Hi Everyone,

Sheet 1 contains the raw data collected from the survey. Sheet 2 has the actually tallies and percentages.

Thanks again for helping me out.

Well, I guess I went off again- that's why I'm not allowed to discuss politics at home. I hope I did not offend anyone. Mike, you are absolutely right, and if I was not so (*^% tired, I could express my point of view just as well. By the way, Delaware has the highest rate of cancer cases in the Nation- and nobody knows why. And my 2 year old had enlarged lymphatic nodes removed in March. The initial diagnosis was runaway lymphoma. Thank GOD somebody smart sent the biopsy sample to Johns Hopkins and they changed that to "pre-cancerous" meaning they have no idea why it's enlarged. uuuufffff.....

Anyway, the most recent studies ( read about it in the Professional Geologist ) show, that the recent warming and the 1800's "Little Ice Age" are both related to the same sources- wobble in Earth orbit and Sun activity, NOT gas mowers. I learned about THAT in my Geo classes in1980's, so it's been known for a while. I guess we forgot in our fervor to save the Earth.

Mike & Piotr,

Ditto that!

Just a quick note....

In the middle ages we went through a warming period and in the 1800's a cooling period and it looks like we may be going through another warming period. I say 'may be' because the data we have at the moment shows only a small temperaure swing recently compared to the two previous swings. One thing I would like to say is that there is NO credible accepted evidence that any recent warming has been caused by human activity.

When Mt Pinatubo in the Phillapines errupted, it spewed out more greenhouse gasses than all of humankind ever. The earth does not seem to be worse for wear for it.

And yes, the ozone hole is getting smaller again.
