w 123 tough to start when cold

1983 300 CD

When outside temp is less than 60 degrees she has a tough time starting. I wait for the glow plug indicator to go off then try to crank it and nothing happenes. Usually have to do this 3 or 4 times, then I don't wait for the indicator to go off and try to start it and she starts with out any problems. Is this normal? any suggestions?
thanks

Sounds like your glow plugs aren't working. Check the archives for troubleshooting them.

Try waiting 5-10 seconds for the light to go out before starting.
