class action suit 98-99 cars
Just got a letter from MB about a class action suit concerning 1998-and 1999 cars that had problems because of using non-synthetic oil. The result is a coupon for $35 toward an oil change and an increase of the warrantee period to 10 years of 150,000 miles…nice

That's when the FSS system was started, and it turns out to seriously damage the engines if you use dino oil -- the oil turns to sludge before the computer decides it needs to be changed. Later models specify that synthetic must be used, or change the oil every 3000 miles or some such.
The opposite is true on some American cars -- damned oil change light comes on a week after you change the oil..... Peter

Richard u:
I haven't rec'd a letter yet. My 98 has been getting new synthetic and filter at 5-6k intervals since new, but the warranty would be nice. Is it on the whole car, just the engine, or just a warranty against damage caused by oil problems?
