Twitch,
What exactly is the Speedshop that you mentioned? I'd love to get a few of these high intensity LEDs for some of my other projects. Thanks a lot! Again, great job Alex

123's have very bad instrument cluster lighting, 126's are pretty good.
Watch out what wattage of a bulb you put in your 123, alot of people have melted thier cluster. LED's don't generate as much heat as regular light bulbs though. |

Mercedes Man,
These are 3V LEDs, thats why you have to put a 390Kohms resistors. The stock lightbulbs are 12V, so you have to drop the voltage to use the HID LEDs. Dieselhead, A Speedshop is a garage or a shop where you can buy parts to modify your car (streetracing). These shops have a lot of parts like neons or HID LEDs, rims. I just got the new W124 Performance Products catalog, and they had some white face gauge inserts. Too bad they don’t have them for the W123 cars.

Twitch,
One more question about these LEDs- How do they react to the brightness adjustment control on the dash? Is dimming gradual or do the lights go out suddenly when you drop below a certain voltage?

I know this isn't Mercedes Diesel related, but I am wondering if these HID LED's can help me with another problem I have been facing. I have an old Sansui stereo reciever, where the dial lights have burned out, and have yet to find replacement bulbs, or found anyone who has of been of any help to me. I am wondering if HID LED's, or any LED's work as a suitable replacement for the dial lights. I remember seeing this post, and the idea came to me when I was checking out a friends new 2003 Range Rover, which had many LED's.

Check this thread out
On the first post, there is a guy that does custom white gauges, his e-mail is included.
I am sure he can do them for a W123. Jim |

For you guys that are considering this project, I've found a site for the high output LED's online. They are very inexpensive and the site has lots of tech info relating individual specs and wiring. Click Here

This page here looks very promising! Look at the bottom! I'm seriously going to get some of these. Not only will it update the look for the car, but they last a lot longer than incandescent bulbs.

Rod, do the LED's fit the sockets for the dash lights, etc., or do you need to fashion new sockets. Plese let us know how is comes out when you get yours.

David,
You should have reset the trip meter and put a hair dryer on the outside thermistor. You would have had 1's and 0's all around.
