That '99 model is nice isn't it.
If I were not so fond of the W123's this is what I would be bidding on:

I like the color of the Euro 300D, and the fact that it is a true Euro model with the bumpers and healights. I am guessing that it uses the 617.912 engine, since it is a non-turbo model.

Yes, so nice I actually bid on it. Thought $22,500 would take it until the last few hours of the auction...oh well...

I like that.. just because it's a stick shift!

An economical E-Class Stick shift..

I really would love to own the 98/99 Turbodiesel.

A local car for me... too bad it's still pretty expensive..

I know this isn't a diesel but it's such a pretty coupe that makes mine look like a beater.

In case anyone is interested, I got an email from a fellow who I have been corresponding with, listing the Euro CDI models that he can now grey market into the US. These are on his list.

If I remember his comments correctly, he said that the 2001 and later importable because they have OBDII which is a serious requirment for importation on any model from 1996 onward.

If anyone is interested, email me and I will forward the information.

Basically he said that the EPA has opened up the; 200CDI, 220CDI, 250CDI, 270CDI and the 400CDI turbo V8 for import. He said that you could order a new one from a German dealer, ship it and he can help with paperwork, fees and taxes. He indicated about $900 for shipping, $3000 for fees and taxes and a ballpark figure of $5000 for conversion.

Have a great day,

Wow, good information, Larry. Imagine how cool it would be to have an S400 CDI. I wonder how well the US MB dealers would know the car, and how long it would take to get replacement parts.
