Identification of Euro 300D
Can someone help with a VIN number ID ? I have found a Euro 300D at a finance office. Probably a repo. Its VIN says WDB1231301A232548. There is a grey market imports sticker in the door jam. It says it was manufactured Dec. 1984. But it is a non turbo. Is there something fishy here ? I kind of like it as a fix up car as the interior looks very good and the odo says 130000 miles(if it can be trusted). Any help would be appreciated.

TXBill, the car has an interesting configuration. It has MBTEx seats not leather, but it has a headlight adjustment switch on the center console near the sunroof switch. Yes it has a sunroof and Euro lights. It has a front bumper with two short rubber strips instead of one long one all the way across, I guess to leave room for a larger Euro tag. It is an automatic and it has the instrument cluster without a tach (just a large clock). I think this is like the earlier US models. I found a earlier insurance card in the dash where one point in time it was insured as a 1992 ! Kind of scary how insurance companies do business.

The VIN says it's a Euro model by virtue of the fact there is no "letter" in the fourth position. Euro's are WDB... and US are WDB"A" or some other letter in that fourth position.

Euro model
deltadave,
If you're lucky that euro 300D has the 240D a/c heater controls. Then you can avoid all the 300D a/c hassles. Too bad, it doesn't have one of the euro 5 speed manual transmissions. Hopefully, it also has manual windows, too. Might want to check to see if it has an oil cooler since many of the euro cars didn't have them. Ben |

Ben,
I've got one just like what you describe. It has been in three different accidents--$16,000.00 in damages--and still looks like new. Want to buy it???

Does it 'look something like this? This is my '84 Euro 240D. The lights are earlier model, but everything else is stone original, right down to its faithful 530,000 miles.
BTW her name is "Ol Silver." |

I do indeed plan on doing that. It's a matter of getting everything done that I need to get done. I have several projects backed up that I must do first.
I miss the ol' girl. I have two other fabulous to drive newer MB's, but there's something about that ol' smelly, clattering machine that made its way into my blood. Have a great day, |
