Replacing O-Rings on Air Filter Oil Down Tube
I found some good info on this by using the search feature, and I feel comfortable that I can tackle this with no problem. The only question is: can I just buy an assortment-pack of o-rings from Auto Zone for this? Would they be heat-resistant? Or do I need to order the parts from here?
TIA

Generic O-rings are probably OK
But I picked mine up at my local dealer for pennies.

I used generic
then I found out that the down tube was broken off from the filter housing. darn.
I had to use a bunch of epoxy, some washers and a little extra metal tubing. Obvoiusly, when you do this repair, make sure that air filter rubber mounts are good and that the mounting bracket is not broken. best of luck

Things to watch for
Bad motor mounts will break the air cleaner mount frame. That will lead to wearing a hole or causing a fategue crack in the tube where it has a clamp that bolts to the manifold. It took me 2 years to find my tube cracked under the clamp. It only leaked after a high speed run.

Tube troubles
We recently went through this tube removal and replace thing and found out a quick way to get the lower tube off and back on again. We simply took a small screw type hose clamp and clamped it up on the steel tube down near the bottom, then you can go under the car , place a long steel rod against the screw on the clamp and strike rod with hammer. Tube pops right off. When you're finshed replacing the "O" rings, use the same steel rod to strike the screw clamp from the top to drive the tube back onto the pan tube. Leave the hose clamp in place when you're finished.

Is there a mixing of topics here?
There is an oil drain tube for the turbo. There is an oil drain tube for the air cleaner oil separator. ---------------------------- I've done the oil drain tube o-rings for the air cleaner - easy. Got to do the turbo oil drain tube sometime. Planning to take pictures and post. I think I have a way to do it without removing the turbo, which other people have described - so I'd like to document it. Ken300D |
