Hello! I currently have the dash apart to put another radio in my 300D, and decided to replace the turn signal/hazard flasher (the old one still works but is real quiet; I can't hear it with the engine running unless the ashtray's removed, and then only barely; so I'm guessing it'll fail before too long as I've been told on here that it's supposed to be loud). I looked on Fastlane, and the part they describe as it (I think; they call it an "impulse relay") is slightly different. I believe mine has 3 pins and one plastic alignment dowel; however, the one that Fastlane pictures has 4 pins and that dowel.

Is Fastlane's part an updated one, or what's up? AFAIK, the flasher that's in the car now is original; the part has a "Made in West Germany" sticker or something to that effect. I brough thte flasher into the parts shop at the dealer and they want $50 for it. Fastlane wants $26 for the part I described.

If it's ~$50 from the dealer and kinda under the ashtray, its the right part.

try doing a search on the part number itself through fastlane, or partshop. The number should be on your flasher.

Anyway, be aware that the MB flashers are considerably more complicated than the cheapo thermal flashers that some "nameless" cars use and they sell at generic parts stores.

Hey Warden,

For whatever it's worth, I too had a faulty flasher in my wagon (a 4 pin) and changed it out with a flasher (3 pin) from my son's 240D that's currently parked.

I don't know what the difference is, but I've had it in use now for two weeks and no problems yet.

The part number for my four pin flasher is: 0008211063 - this is out of the 1982 300TD. I didn't catch the part number on the 3 pin flasher, sorry.

where exactly is this relay located as i am trying to fix my turn signals and have narrowed it down to this relay

Theres the red emergency flasher switch then theres another relay under the console and fwd if the shifter. At least on the "later" 123s.

Be sure that it's not the red emergency flasher switch, when it's in the off position the turn signals work, if it's part way in between or in the flasher position, the turn signals don't work.
I thought I had a bad flasher, bought one, put it in and nothing happened. It turned out that one of the plastic levers on the emergency switch was broken and it wasn't moving even though the rocker switch seemed to be working.

definitely not the emergency flasher switch and cant find the relay

which is supposed to be three pin but will look more today will be glad when i get my cd with all the models and info on it

Hi Warden, old models must have had three pins as there is a statement under the ID on the Worldpac about "newer modules have 4 pins. please verify the plug has an empty hole where the forth pin goes etc."

well I bought a new replacement when the original flasher stopped completely in my '83 (now sold) and the new one was much quieter than the old one. FYI.
If you need some more noise to indicate the turn sigs are working you could buy a small buzzer and wire it to the lead that carries power to the tail lights, just an idea. They probably sell one at Frys on Portage St. in PA.

my 240D 1981, USA version, has it between stick shift of the automatic gearbox and the ashtray, under the small removable little panel around the stick shift. You have to lift it up and remove it.
now, my flasher failed and the MBenz was quite expensive (in this country) So I bought a japanese for a fraction of the cost $5.00 I believe was for a toyota (they show the electric diagram on it) with 3 pins. I installed 3 "extension wires" connect it and worked ok, and that was about 6 months ago. no problem I works as if it were the original. Hope this idea helps you. Good luck

I looked under that part and there is no flasher unit . I was told on another forum that it maybe one of the relays in the fuse box. My car is a european model , so some things are slightly different.

The red rocker switch for the 4-way flashers serves two purposes. First, it allows you to turn all 4 flashers on, by rocking the switch into the "on" position, which then energizes the blinkers at the four corners of the car by sending a signal to the blinker relay for all four blinkers at the same time (something the blinker stalk can't do). The rocker switch is not the item that handles the current to the blinkers at the corners, and it is not the thing that has the relay in it that makes the noise or makes the lights actually blink. Next, it prevents you from using the turn signals when the 4 way flashers are on. This means the signal from the blinker stalk goes through this little switch, and if the switch is in the "emergency blinker" position, the circuit to the blinker relay from the turn signal stalk is interrupted. So, if the little red switch fails, it can disable the blinkers. The blinker relay is another part, and runs the bulbs in the four corners of the car, as well as the instrument panel arrows, and the little lamp that lights the red rocker switch when it gets a signal from the blinker stalk or the red rocker switch.
