US Diesel article in Oct. Mercedes Enthusiast

If this has already b een noted, please ignore - I didn't see mention of it.

I'm in London on vacation and picked up the October issue of the Brit magazine Mercedes Enthusiast. Good issue in general with a focus on coupes, and specifically an article on p. 32 by Reed Hitchcock on MB diesels in the US in the late 70's-early '80's. Good background on models available and when, reasons for diesel-heavy product mix, and a sidebar on the current enthusiast scene for these cars with photos and discussions with 4-5 diesel owners from the DC area. The article listed the URL to this forum for more information. Very cool, pick up a copy if you can, it's available around the US if you look.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm not sure if any of the other guys are on the forum.. They were all *really good* sports for coming out and being a part of it. The whole group had some neat perspectives on diesel ownership....

Also, I have to recommend Mercedes Enthusiast magazine - if you've never seen it, get a copy! It is also far cheaper to subscribe. I know that for me, I'd been waiting a *long* time for a Mercedes magazine (besides the STAR) to emerge from the sea of BMW rags at my local Borders...

Cheers!

Mine's the blue coupe...

and a buddy with a blue 300 sedan I invited to show up in case he might be needed ended up in all the good pictures!

Got the magazine from the writer yesterday, which almost makes up for the fact that the car wouldn't start this morning (and so far has cost twice what I paid for it in repairs). Car still had former owner's Texas plate due to repeated failures to pass Maryland safety inspection.

A pretty dog that now just BARELY hunts.

I picked up an Issue in Barnes and Noble Book stores here in N.J. about two weeks ago so at least others can find a copy there . I must say they did a great article on the MB diesel.

TXBill -

I wish I was that tall! That is actually Bill Sohne holding his son. I am the one with the light ivory 300D/T. That was the one fluke I found after the article was published. But, hey, if that's the worst that happens, we're doing alright!

I so far havn't been able to find Mercedes Enthusiast in my area. I have one more bookstore to checkout before I give up my local search. I think I will try and pick one up this week when I to Seattle.
