My "new" 240D, manual tranny

with 141k miles. Finally, after "dickering" for a month it is in my driveway. This car needs nothing but an alignment, a new boot around the shifter and new shifter linkage bushings. Drives/runs GREAT!! Oh yea, it has those "orthopedic" seats. They are not worn out and they feel like a Lazy Boy recliner.

My DSL connection went bad this morning during a very severe thunderstorm so I will put up a pic of the interior later in the week. Bill, the ext is a very dark blue color - not sure about the exact name but it looks great. The interior is more of a light tan than the light brown like in the wagon and my 300D. I will probably get out there and do a valve adj on it this afternoon.

Jim, How do you know that you have the Orthopedic seats? Is there something you can see when looking at them... or you have other evidence like sales reciept... etc.. ? Or are you going by your "seat of the pants" evaluation ? I am really envious of you having them.... Have you had other MB seats which were too squishy ? (to compare with these ?) I guess you have not had them apart this soon to where you could take pics of them... to contrast their construction with normal seats?
I really need to beef up my seats...RIGHT NOW...so I have been mulling this problem over for months... but it is now cool enough to tackle the problem... so any specifics you have will be very helpful... Thanks, Greg

I've always thought the orthopedic seats were those adjustable seats that filled with air to give you support where you need it. My car had the option of seats like that, I wonder what they cost. Probably too expensive since I've never heard of a 190 with them.

Nice car Jim!

If you're not careful you are going to end up with as many cars as I have!

First dibs

Do Not sell that car without contacting me first.

Quite frankly, it is my dream car and looks like a real beauty.

Probably wrong about the seats

I guess I am just not used to ones that arn't flat wore slap out . There seems to be some extra support in my middle back area on the sides of the seat backs and it is very comfortable. Sort of like "lumbar" support.

Anyway, started going through the cars records - a Commander with the Canadian Forces picked the car up in Germany Nov 23, 1981. The paper says at the top:
Daimler-Benz Aktiengesellschaft whatever in the world that means. Anyway it says:
We deliver to you
1 Mercedes Benz model 240D sedan
491 US equipment
Paint DB 904 dark blue
Upholsery DB DB 135 MB tex cream
and on and on with each option listed. The most expensive was option number 580 - air conditioning/tempmatic at DM 2,980. Total DM 32,671.58 and this included a 6% discount. One of the funnier sounding options was 673 - battery w/higher capacity for countries with low temperature at DM 52.00. I don't imagine they ever figured it would end up in middle Ga .

I gave the car a valve adj and changed the oil with the good ol' Delo 400. Also, I got the cruise control going by taking the amp out of the 300D and putting it in. The cc amp is mounted in the kickplate cover instead of buried underneath the dash - makes it alot easier to change out. I can't survive without a working cruise control. I'm starting to "rob" parts off of my 300D while waiting for my friend to get his 396 put back in his Chevelle (he lost oil pressure after the oil pump went out on it) where I can pull the engine out of the 300D and rebuild it for my "winter" project (I am borrying his engine lift). Based on what I can tell so far the 240D gets all kind of fuel mileage .

This is the car you told the wife you were buying to resale to me, right??? She's a beauty. I saw an 89 300TD for sale at the Citgo station at Zebulon Rd. and I475 Wednesday. I wonder how much trouble it would be to swap that diesel into Hitler's Revenge???
