Talking Convert manual locks/windows to power

Hey,

Looking at a 82 240D with manual everything. Wondering if it's possible to convert the manuals door locks and possibly the windows to power?

Could get some front doors with power mechanisms and replace the center console and wire something up for the windows. But the locks are vacuum. Would some engine modifications be required to get the right connections? I don't care if the trunk is power or not.

Power door locks are kind of essential these days.

Thanks for any suggestions! (even if just to say I'm nuts!)

PS: Did a search, didn't find anything related......

If you get the doors with power windows, your problem with door locks is half done already, since the locks will be there too.

What else you need is the vac tank from behind the wheel under the front fender (remove skirt behind wheel, tank has two bolts, top and bottom) and the plastic tubing between the doors, etc. This is where the tank is on the W115s, anyway -- someone will correct me if it is different on the W123s.

If you don't want to change doors, just grab all the associated hardware and plastic lines from a salvage yard.

The vac supply is connected to a blank nipple on the main hose between the vac pump and brake booster -- you will need to either drill a hole in the blank nipple, or get a replacement hose. You will need a check valve to put between the supply connection and the rest of the system so the vac will stay in the tank with the engine off.

I don't understand this...

If the locks ARE vacuum...doesn't that mean you can put down the drivers lock... and it lock all the doors as a result? Or unlock from the drivers seat by pulling up the drivers lock ?

Are you saying you want INdividual door lock control from the driver's seat ?

As the owner of a 1980 manual trans, manual window, manual ac car.... (and no sunroof) ... I think you should just sell this car to someone who will appreciate the lack of potential problems it currently has... and you find a car with power windows factory installed in it...

All 123's have automatic door locks. As for the windows, you could find a complete wrecking yard car and get everything including window risers, switches, etc. from the same car and probably do this.

I, personally, wouldn't lift one finger to add power windows. This just adds one more (four more) gadgets to the car that will break and cause trouble. There is nothing like manual windows and manual sunroof. They are simple and trouble free.

My $0.02,
