Two ways to go here -- you can remove the glow plugs or injectors. On the 603, remove the injectors -- you don't want it to start, anyway.

You will need a correct guage (450 psi or higher) designed for diesels -- gasoline ones can burst, not funny. You will also need the correct adapter to screw down into the injector hole.

Remove all injectors -- you can either remove the pipes or not, but don't bend them enough to kink them -- then install adapter in #1 injector hole. Wire the stop lever down so you won't get diesel fuel everywhere, and crank for several engine revolutions. Guage will hold highest pressure (there is a relief button for the next reading. Record pressure and move adapter and guage to next cylinder.

Miniumum acceptable pressure is 300 psi -- below that you will get hard starts and poor performance. New engine spec is about 400 psi.

You may want to check both hot and cold to see what the rings are like. I don't recommend adding oil to see if the compression comes up -- too much chance of it igniting and blowing the guage up.

If the reading is low, you need to do a leak-down to see where the pressure is escaping. This means getting the cuylinder to exactly TDC, then pressurizing via the injector hole (with adapter) and then listening for the escaping air -- crankcase means bad rings, exhaust means leaking exhaust valve, intake means leaking intake valve.

If possible it would be much safer to pressurize the cylinder at Bottom Dead Center...If not.... The crank should be mechanically locked in place by some means...

Won't work leatherman -- exhaust valve opens. Must be TDC exactly, on compression stroke. Engine won't motor if it really is TDC, and you don't need more than about 30-40 psi anyway.
