Man, that sure is a beautiful car. I like the looks of those over the new ones.

trouble is 140 diesels are very hard to find...they didn't sell very many...and that is one car that you want to pass on if there are ANY gaps in service history(well actually I would say that goes for any 140 gas or diesel)

my personal car(a one owner ,bought and serviced at the same MB dealer before I bought it) has run up a tab of about $20,000 in my three years of ownership( about 90% warranty)

by the way that is a great looking car oldsouth.....moonstone(?) is the color of yours..correct?

Tank, Just wondering....

"Calm down RG5384 sounds like you are breaking up a fight? This isn't a fight, it is spirited debate? I don't see anything wrong with that. But then again, I like to watch crossfire too."

Tank, you seem to enjoy this alot. Just a casual observation. Just wondering, how old are you? I don't mean this in a negative context, just curious... All I am saying is, your "spirited debates" often read out as biased, tiring and uninformed. Just a casual observation.... And by the way, you say your car was "restored." Was it body-off, nut and bolt or just highly maintained? Just curious....

But back to the issue at hand....

A 350SD of any vintage will beat a 300SDL in a race, drag and street!

The later 350SD with its vault construction, advanced systems and multilink rear end is perhaps the finest, most advanced SD ever in the states. It did have its problems... The 300SDL, while a rare car is very good, though not perfect. It is however, the best car to buy if you want the most advanced, (*read reliable) S class offered in the States after the venerable 300SD of 81-85.

And please do not discount the smaller SD body, many enthusiasts prefer the smaller wheelbase, with its tigher lines, squatter stance and better handling than the larger SDL. Its lighter too....

Please don't take these words as war, just an observation....

Ah, Kress. That's not an obswervation, sounds more like a grudge. Touche' you got me back. Looks like you have been waiting a long time. That's ok, people that take things so personal or hold grudges are only hurting themselves. As long as you feel better, that's what's important.

You mean my FACTUAL observation of the 3.5' history? Wrong. Or my opinion of my car's value? I see age discrimination in your gogles perhaps as well. Lot's of baggage Kress?

ps: Please don't take these words as war, just an observation....

It's definitely NOt your fault RG5384. This guy although "tactful" and "cautious" in his message clearly holds a grudge from our debate on my car's value from months or weeks ago. But I think he's the kind of guy that just won't admitt it and take cheap shots instead. Like I said, I am still learning tact/debate and the lines in between. I really don't mean any offense to anyone. If I have a problem with someone, I will admitt when I am wrong or try to resolve it. Kress does not seem to be that way. Whatever works for him is fine.

I would never buy a 300SDL or 350SDL, they are both too large for me, I like the shorter wheel base cars like my 300CD. I also don't like all the added features that they have, that's more stuff to break, and more money to spend. I personally would rather spend my money on other things, if I had the money I would have several W123's, than one large money pit such as a 300SDL or a 350SDL.

At the risk of exposing myself to the `crossfire', I'm curious...

Tank, in an earlier post, you asked...

What did you mean by that?

I think Kress was insinuating that I am im-mature or that might be expexted of someone who is younger rather than aged and attempting to talk down to me. He says he doesn't mean anything personal, but he really does.

I have to admit, "TANK" has been somewhat of an experiment for me/Or/ experience, I mean I have been more forth-coming with my opinions on this forum than anywhere else like the work environment for example.

It's like that song..I can't think of the writers name but she say something along the lines of not being afraid to test your boundaries and learning. It ends "you llllleeeaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrnnnnnn..."you may have heard it. Some people respect forthcoming-ness, or respect facts, others react by getting ticked off when their opinion is rejected and won't listen any further regardless of who's right. Please go to "open discussion"->Fire Facts or Retreat in Tact" with your opinion. I think most people tend to hold back in order to avoid reactions like Kress. I prob po'd turnne1 big time to. Although it wasn't my intention, he prob feels like I insulted his car or personal choice. In a way I guess I did, even though I was stating some factual info and truely like the car personally..

Oh, I understood the implication of Kress's comment to you about your age.

What I'm want to know is what you meant by asking if he had `Lot's of baggage?'.

To be quite honest BlueBabyBenz, I was surprised that he had in a internet sense, held a "virtual" grudge for so long. I thought we were cool after I had kidded with him by saying we were both hard headed Germans in the post about my car value. Makes me think a person of this mentality will tend take things too seriously and carry unnecessary baggage in relationships in general.

Perhaps, but your question suggested a more direct connection with age with respect to baggage. Was I mistaken?
