No problem, I think I get your drift - but I meant nothing with respect to age in that comment. I really do lov y'all on this forum! I guess you are always going to piss somebody off though!! Some of us are just better at it than others! Can't we all just get along!! Somebody congratulate me, I just hit 700 and wasn't even trying!

Who has the highest mileage 603.970 engined car?
Good discussions ongoing re various diesel engines in 126 and 140 bodies.
Someone noted they have heard of many high mileage 3.5L engined cars. How many miles does your 3.5L diesel have on it? Do you personally know of any others with greater mileage? What is your insight as to your or their maintenance issues?

Okay, I'm comming clean...
"It's definitely NOt your fault RG5384. This guy although "tactful" and "cautious" in his message clearly holds a grudge from our debate on my car's value from months or weeks ago. But I think he's the kind of guy that just won't admitt it and take cheap shots instead. Like I said, I am still learning tact/debate and the lines in between. I really don't mean any offense to anyone. If I have a problem with someone, I will admitt when I am wrong or try to resolve it. Kress does not seem to be that way. Whatever works for him is fine."
Tank, let me first break this down for you.... Here is a little bit about myself. I am 24 years old, and work on Wall Street. In addition to this, I am also a writer who in many reguards is considered an automobile aficianado. Read, not just Mercedes, almost any car any ethusiast can ever want. My information comes through years of diverse enthusiasm and reading. Those who know me in the forums/met me in person know that I am a nice guy, who also owns a really nice 300D. I do not know everything nor do I claim to do so. More often than not, I ask more than I tell.... But I do know my stuff. Keep in mind, not just Diesel Mercedes. I do not hold grudges, what you say/claim obviously makes no difference in my life. If you think I'm thinking of the value of your 300SDL discussion, you're nuts (and I suggest you get a life.) I find your posts arrogant, simpleton in nature. You merely observe, state a point, get proven wrong, then compliment a guy. While I think you mean well, your efforts are weak. Tank, you seem a bit immature, possibly someone who got their car from their parents, and deemed it the best/finest car around. But really, I must ask this (if you really want to dig): did you ever sell your car for the astronomical sum you wanted? I guess not, you still got it.... One last note. I love this forum, I try not to "fight" and I feel I bring a good deal of information and enthusiasm to the mix. All this note is for is to explain to Tank, this is not a school yard. We try not to piss in each other's ears, "defending our cars." We all know where we stand, and where our interests are. Lets keep the ad hoc bs to a minimum. |

bigjoe,
What did you get out of all this? Still focusing on 86-87 SDLs? Expanding your search to 90-91 350s and W140s? Scared that the simplest forum posts turn out like this? If it comes down to a show of hands, I have an 87 SDL that needed a new head at 260K miles because of cracks. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

there is one thing that cracks me up about the way we talk about our mercedes automobiles(myself included). We all seem to complain about head problems at 200k, or transmissions going at 175k miles. I know i'd sure complain if my tranny went, but the big picture that I know i miss sometimes, is the fact that many cars dont even make it as long as 120k miles before they are doomed. Sixto, i know you werent complaining, it just jogged my mind a little bit. When my mind gets jogged, i must type. Must be some sort of disease?
anyway, just thought i would share my current thoughts, R

Okay, I'm comming clean...
I think more dirt is showing than clean. I am glad you at least try to see things in a positive light.
"I do not hold grudges, what you say/claim obviously makes no difference in my life." Obviously you do, I can see this very clearly because here you go again getting personal. "If you think I'm thinking of the value of your 300SDL discussion, you're nuts" Thats your opinion and you are entittled to it. "(and I suggest you get a life.) " I really don't give what you suggest or think. And if I saw you in person, I would say the same thing but hopefully I never do. "I find your posts arrogant, simpleton in nature." Obviously you need to re-read my reasoning behind my observations. "You merely observe, state a point, get proven wrong, then compliment a guy. While I think you mean well, your efforts are weak." Where was I proven wrong about my post on the "reliability of the 3.5?" You still fail to make the mark in proving your point. You arguments aren't holding up. What's wrong with an honest compliment along the way. Just trying to show I can see both sides. What's wrong with that? "Tank, you seem a bit immature, possibly someone who got their car from their parents, and deemed it the best/finest car around. But really, I must ask this (if you really want to dig): did you ever sell your car for the astronomical sum you wanted? I guess not, you still got it...." Well, you guessed wrong Kress. "One last note. I love this forum, I try not to "fight" and I feel I bring a good deal of information and enthusiasm to the mix. All this note is for is to explain to Tank, this is not a school yard." You are an opinionated wipe that thinks he know everything and is always right. I have come up with factual data backing up my claims which you fail to recognize through you hate covered goggles. You are probably ticked in general because you are not making money on any of your customers in the stock market. You have a horrible disposition and are a real bad read of people. Perhaps you should find another line of work where you don't have to deal with people considering you are above most. Seems you are more well versed in putting other's down than answering tech questions on MB's. I'll "go out on a limb" and say you have probably had a lot of practice with it. Put that in your suspenders and smoke it-loser! Moderator's note: Please, if you guys wish to continue this discourse, take it to email. Thanks. |
