Sniper in Ashland

Was anyone else stuck on I-95 lastnight?

I was. For hours! We were driving north from Richmond on I-95 and kept seeing all the off ramps blocked off by police. then we found out the sniper hit again. Then we are approaching Ashland and see a parking lot of traffic southbound with no headlights or anything. just sitting there. poeple standing outside their cars. we pass ashland by about 10 miles and BAM, we are stopped in the same mess.

People went to sleep in their cars, stood on highway and chatted, threw footballs. choppers and police and secret service and FBI interviewed people. the funny thing is, just in front of us, was a white econoline box van, they completely ignored it.

anyways... i was just curious if anyone else was stuck on I95 in their beloved diesel.

cheers

eric

My prayers are with you folks in that area. This psycho must be stopped.

I am really put out with the media for calling this psycho murderer a "sniper." In the military and in the police departments, the sniper is an honorable job. These snipers don't kill unarmed, civilian men, women and children.

They should be calling this guy the "psycho murderer."

Additionally, as a marksman, this guy wouldn't make a pimple on a snipers neck. I don't know the exact numbers, but it seems that his longest shot has been about 150 yards. Any half way decent deer hunter could make these shots.

Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock had 93 confirmed long distance kills in Viet Nam, including a 2300 Meter single shot with a confirmed kill. That is well in excess of one mile. Carlos Hathcock also pulled seven men out of a burning Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) suffering severe burns that ultimately bounced him out of the Marine Corps less than two months before retirement elligibility.

Carlos Hathcock was a SNIPER. He killed armed enemy soldiers to protect his brothers in arms.

I hope this helps to explain why I am so offended by the media calling this psycho a "sniper."

Have a great day,

Thanks for printing the clarification, Larry. I read about Carlos in the American Rifleman a few years ago - snipers have always taken flack from the press. My dad was on the US Army Camp Perry rifle team before ww2 - 1000 yds, iron sights! - He used to recount how the papers didn't want to cover the match because they were 'snipers' (they weren't, he was B.A.R. as a grunt, then mortars in the Americal Division on the Canal after he got his commission). Snipers SAVED countless lives in every war from the Napoleonic to present by taking out field commanders or general officers and thus weakening the opponents offensive capabilities.

This mutt is a murderer, not a sniper.

I think I am going to report a 1991 300D 2.5 183,000 miles & does not use a drop of oil. I would especially like to know how a diesel runs without using any oil? What do you use instead of oil anyway?

The car does "use" oil, it does not "consume" any oil, ie burn the oil.

I love pulling this guy's chain once in a while!! HEHE, I am just trying to get you up and running for your new latest greatest challenge in handling objections (inside joke). Of course perhaps my car will fit your definition after Tuesday or so. Cjman has one of if not the cleanest cars in the United States for sure! Perhaps someone will get to see it if we have the east coast meet and doesn't run me off the road or something before we get there!.

the guy in md/va is a sniper 'wannabe' and a coward albeit a
fairly smart coward (so far...)
i hope he'll mess up sooner rather than later and then be nailed.

William,

No, no, it must have been a pump. The media wouldn't know a shotgun from a rifle, from a baseball bat, from their @$$.

It amazes me how the media is dealing with this. To begin with, they think this guy is some kind of Annie Oakley. His marksmanship is average at best.

Secondly, the media is really chapped about Chief Moos(sp?) using them for communication without them getting a story. Sometimes I wonder if the media has any sense of right and wrong at all.

I REALLY hope that this guy gets taken out by an NRA member.

Did you hear that they are postponing a Marine Sniper competition somewhere because of this. I think that is sick. That is just further comparing this murderer to honorable, true Snipers.

Have a great day,

IMO.. the media should call the "sniper" a terrorist, since he's terrorizing the VA/MD/DC area

I was...

Saturday at midnight, stuck near the Cabin John bridge on the Washington Beltway for 3.5 hours. The police set up a "chokepoint" in the middle of the span that crosses the Potomac, but it wasn't clear this was "sniper" related, looked just like another accident. A local radio station that cycles traffic every eight minutes kept insisting that traffic on belt was "moving normally." Cars ran out of gas, at least one person removed by ambulance. Once on the bridge, confronted by 100 police w M16s and riot gear. HAD the "sniper" been caught up in this in the dark, did it occur to anyone he might start shooting or take hostages? Was in '83 240D, not pleasant to try and hold back in traffic with all that torque at idle.

Heck, I live off the first exit off I-95 in Delaware , and my son goes to daycare about 3 minutes from that exit. that's about 1.25 hrs on 95 from the northern-most shooting site. Never stopped thinking about it...
