Question Vacuum Modulator Removal

How do I remove my vacuum modulator deal down by the tranny? I want to replace the O-ring seal there. I have the seal and the new little cap and hope that this will help my flaring problem (though I have my doubts)

Is there a little trick to getting the vm out of there? Haynes doesn't help with this one unless I've missed it.

Thanks

Don

If you can get a strong flashlight and a mirror look right above the vm. There should be a screw or two (don't remember exactly) holding a "keeper" in place. Remove the screw, pull the "keeper" away from the vm in the perpendicular direction and the vm should pull straight out. Based on the model - you need to make sure you pull it straight out. Some of them have a plastic "pin" that will break if you pull it to the side.

Thanks Jim:

That is good news and I'll look for those two items. I did see and remove the vacuum line where it attaches to the vm. It must be around that area.

be really careful with the two allen bolts

When I attempted to unbolt the allen bolt retaining the modulator, it stripped right away. You may have only one (easy) chance to get it off, so make it count.

Now I have a very rounded off stub of a allen bolt in a fairly inaccessible spot. Fortuately, adjusting the modulator in place has made my AT tolerable.

Thanks,

I'm doing it tomorrow and will exercise more caution that I'm used to.
