Those pictures really bring back memories. The first Benz I owned was the same body, except a '68, cylinder gas car with a manual transmission. It had the horn rim steering wheel that Bill mentioned, and the shifter was like a 1/4" diameter chrome rod that came up with a spherical shaped shift ball.
The car was economical, relatively quick(with no smog equipment) and was a real kick to drive. I traded it for my first 240D ('77.) I have missed that car more and more as the years rolled by. It was one of the few that I ever saw with a stick. Another thing I remember well about that car is that the fenders and hood were visible, and the hood star, for some reason, seemed like it was 6" in diameter compared to the later cars. I suppose because it was up higher and much more visible while driving. I remember how strange it was, when I started driving my 240D, for the hood start to be sort of out of sight. The four cylinder diesel with a stick would be nice too. Have a great day, |

This forum will be the ruin of me. That has to be one of the most handsome and appealing cars I have ever seen. I will be tracking that auction...

That car is really really cool. I posted a link to it on the other thread "ebay finds". I was about to start a new thread just because it looks like such a nice little car!
There was one in NH a 220D 4-speed. But it was in red.. a little too strong a color for me. Oh well I hope an enthusiast (maybe someone from this site) will own it!
