hawaiian 1980 300sd
Well as some of you know my search continues for a good diesel here on the islands. I got to drive a 1980 300sd today. Wow! I think that's what I should be looking for. Too bad it was such a rust bucket, but I really like those 116's, and the power was great. Pleasantly surprised. The power was great and transmission shifted well, but the blowby was the worst I've seen yet. I have read the posts covering this, but still don't have a good idea how much is too much, and is it really a tell-tale sign of a dog?
I sure would love to own this one! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1871285854 Going tomorrow to drive my first non-turbo 300d. A 1978. Wish me luck...Aloha |

I just drove a '79 300D 5 cyd non- turbo 150K, and was surprised how much power it had. This was in N. Va. But when I got into my 84 SD and left... I could feel a lot more power, but still like the 79....no rust, well maintained. You could import from Australia....you are almost there, and with the exchage rates you could save money....if you don't mind driving from the wrong side of the car. Good luck with your search!
