Not a FRAUD

Lock all the threads you want TX Bill. I had a friend who is on this forum tell me about your quote. It's one thing to have an opinion, it's another to make accusations like you did (basically calling me a liar). In fact someone else called me to buy the car for the original price I was selling. Will that person please step up and post? Even if you have to logon as an "alias" if you are concerned about the mighty TX. I will understand if you are afraid to get flamed though. Even a third person called me who couldn't believe your and one other persons persistent arrogance. I am outta here for sure now. Others agree but I suggested they refrain from posting. Flame on see ya.

I have no idea what that was about, but it seemed very uncalled for regardless of the situation.

I hope I'm not anyone who is seen as arrogant. I take exception and go off half cocked sometimes, but I sincerely hope I'm not seen(read) as arrogant.

Have a great day,

Well, if you got $11300 for the car, I'm happy for you. Personally, my jaw hit the ground, but I'm cheap.

It gives me hope when I sell mine that there's someone out there with a check for me.

Somewhere....

Yoo Hoo, where are you????? I'm waiting...

What I can't figure out is why people will pay $18,000 for a 'cheap' Toyota,Honda,Chevy,Ford, fill in the name... but recoil at the thought of paying $10,000 for a car which has already shown its ability to last for decades/ look great/ be serviceable for the most part by normal human beings...

Larry, " going off half cocked" ?... How's that workin for you ? ... as Dr Phil would say... LOL

Michael ,you may be cheap .. but your probably not in TXBill's league.... last time I knew about the overall situation $700 was the average amount he pays for drive home MB's.... so his reaction to the $11,000 figure was VISCERAL.... NOT intellectual..... shook him to the bone....

Yea, that's kinda my opinion. I payed nearly $5000.00 for a Mazda MX6 before the Benz, and it was a rattle trap. So I traded it in for my Benz that they were asking $6500.00, with a new engine. Some thought I was kinda crazy for paying that much. I felt I got a hell of a car for the price. How many other cars can you buy that old with over 300k miles on it that the doors don't sag to the ground when you open them? I have no idea if Tank's car is worth what he says he got for it or not, but someone did.
Whatever.

I visited a BMW forum a while ago. Not exactly a real classy bunch there!

I've seen that `posing' attitude a lot in the teens growing up, particularily in car culture, rap culture, basketball, etc.

It seems to produce that attitude that you have to belittle someone else to be successful. Apparently respecting someone else is for suckers, and yet, ironically, they seem surprised when someone `dis's' them.

If someone disagrees with you, unload a barrage of venom, threats, and insults. If someone does that to you, act surprised. Are you talkin' to me? Raise the stakes.

I really don't believe it is every kid. But I do think the vocal ones are heard more often.

I'm trying to figure out if it has been any different for any generation. I'm not totally sure, to be honest.

This board has enough for me that the occasional flame war doesn't dissuade me. I'm guessing in general Benzes are not popular with most people with that attitude.

Classy bunch is the phrase. MB owners, for the most part, are classy people !!!!!

Now, if Mr. Tank got $10k, $12k, or even $15k for his car, CONGRATS!!! The person who baought ot valued the vehicle at the price that he paid for it. It seems to me to be a WIN-WIN situation. Tank got what he wanted for his car and the buyer purchased an awesome ride.
Again, the purchaser paid what he valued the vehicle for.
To use an old cliche: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

As I recall from my Finance and Econ School days, the value of something is the money a willing seller will take, and a willing buyer will pay.
Just a single deal does not say much about the market. But still to get a good price on a good machine should not upset anyone here.

Yes, i agree to a certain extent. However, keep in mid that the 300SDLs were only produced for two years in th U.S...'86 and '87. This fact alone reduces the number available. Add to that factor how many are still on the road operating. This reduces the number even more. Add to that factor how many owners or willing parties are selling or would like to sell their 300SDLs and the available number is further reduced.
The time will come when these vehicles will be almost impossible to find in good condition, or at a reasonable price.
Now, what is a reasonable price? Again, whatever a purchaser is willing to pay for it...

He apologized gracefully! I don't even know that he should have. Maybe, maybe not. But he did promptly.

I'm sure I read the post in question and it bounced right over my head as further banter and conversation, I don't remember it sounding smug. I'm sure it must have sounded that way to the guy who is complaining though.

When you're reading "print" without the benefit of hearing a person's voice and watching that person's expression face-to-face, it's easy to interpret something other than what the author fully intended into the printed conversation.

I am new to this group and should probably keep my mouth shut but, I have spent hours and hours reading posts and archives here and this is the first case where I have seen this happen. But I'm new...Maybe it happens more than I know.

All I know is that I appreciate all the help people are willing to share here. That's why I come back, over and over. It is the most productive forum I have ever seen. And I am on 5 different ones at the present time.

Throw me on the fire!

I've been here for about a year now, I think. This is the first time I've seen this big a deal about certain people not being able to "get along and share the sand box". So I'm writing it off as an exception. I've mostly just seen a bunch a friendly Benz owners enjoying each other and helping each other out. The most it has ever gotten "hot" has been in debates about what's the best motor oil to use. And even then I think everyone has kept it reasonable.
This whole little "incident" has been kinda prominent in both this and the "open" forum for a couple weeks now, and maybe it's time to just let it die.

We've had our moments; topsiders, orange anti freeze and that nasty thing with "Donkey":p but we generally cybershake hands and get back to business. This is the only forum I participate in so I would't know about others. Life without an occassional "foodfight" wouldn't be as much fun.

So are you saying it is time to start another deep intellectual discussion about motor oil?
