What to do....
Hi Everyone,
I'd like your advice on how to reconcile the accepted market value of a super-clean 300D with only 112K miles with the real value of a car like this. My only thought is EBay, but I've noticed that my fellow man has little knowledge of the true value of items on auction.... So I'm asking you Diesel afficionados what I can do to get the true value of a car like this.... KBB retail value is about $3500, the custom sound system and MB rims cost more than that. fyi....I should sell it because I have too many vehicles and nowhere to park them all, not to mention insure them all.....

Hi Speedy,
I wasn't trying to sell it to you guys....I think that everyone wants a good deal and that means that I cannot hope to sell this car for what I think it's worth. Sure a car has sentimental value etc....but in this case, these are great cars and the used car market prices alot of sh#t out there for twice the KKB retail value of my car. I'll give it to a family member before I sell to a stranger for $4000.00. However, if someone would come along who really appreciates these cars and my example in particular, then I'm sure I could be talked into parting with it. That's the question I face, where should I advertise this car to find the right buyer; MB forums? Maybe I'm just deluded and think this car is worth alot more than it is...if you all think so, tell me I posted on 1sttimers thread telling him to go ahead and take a close look at that one, super clean 85's are rare...

ML,
It worth is what the highest bidder will pay in an open market. If this is less than its worth to you, you just keep it. Try Ebay with the reserve set at the minimum selling price accectable to you. If it doesn't meet your reserve, as I said above, you keep it. This may seem harsh, but its a rule of economics: something isn't worth more a willing buyer will pay no matter what you think it is worth. P E H |

As its particularly nice, you could try AutoTrader.com. I've noticed they tend to list cars of higher value. But it does seem these cars have value to only a select few and those folks are tough buyers. I have no doubt that if I ever decided to sell my '85 300CD it would have to be at a price that would be hard to accept.
