Wobble while braking
I changed pads about 6 months ago on my 1977 300D. About a month ago I experienced a wobble while braking. It occurs during heavy braking, when traveling over around 45 mph. Slow speeds no issue. At high speeds, when I apply the brakes slowly, no issue.
I have inspected EVERYTHING. Is this a warped rotor? JCD |
It does sound like a warped rotor. I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a hanging emergency brake shoe. The shoe was always on and heated up the drum which heated up the rotor and warped it.

I thought so.......however
I thought that warped rotors caused the wobble uniformly during braking, and tended to show significant pulsing when braking at slow speeds. Mine only "shudders" when I have to hit the brakes hard at higher speeds and then they stop and braking is smooth.
PS, all suspension components, front and back look good. JCD |
Iffy tires and loose wheel bearings can do this, as can a bad track rod bushing.

Tires are 1.5 year Michelins...........
and are in good shape. I'll put it on jackstands and check out the suspension components, including the track rod bushing. My sense is if I rule out tires, wheels and suspension components, then I am left with bearing(s)/rotor(s).
