diesel ambulance

While looking at the new auction listings this morning in Honolulu I came across a 1971 230D ambulance. No pictures, but I just thought it was intereseting and couldn't find anything about it with a quick search of the internet....Aloha

What is a 230D? Around that time there was a 200D, 220D and 240D. The 230D was a prewar car from what I read. Perhaps they (or you) meant a 240D?

The coachbuilder Binz and maybe others built wagon versions of the W114 and W115.

I think a vehicle like this was used in the German remake of Ghostbusters

Wer sind Sie gehend zu benennen? Geistunterbrecher!

That's an altavista translation. I don't speak German.

A diesel as an ambulance? I thought the idea was to get the person to the hospital quickly!? I could see a diesel as a hearse!

I had a ride in a Diesel Ford van ambulance. The problem was not the powerplant but a driver who didn't know the way!

ambulances

a couple of years ago while bicycling down the Danube I blew out an achilles tendon. They had to tansport me to the Vienna airport for a flight back to Canada. They tossed me in a diesel ambulance ( a benz of course, I do have standards to uphold} and headed down highway. This was by no means an emergency but the driver was hitting 170 to 190 kph. The sirens and lights make short work of traffic. I had never travelled that fast in a motor vehicle. When talking to the driver afterwards i realized he had the prefect job for a speed freak...not his vehicle, not his fuel and no speeding tickets.
