HELP!!! - Trans slip betwen 1st and 2nd

I no longer think it is my imagination. When the trans is cold in the morning, the first shifts from 1 to 2 produce a slipping sound.

The trans was serviced 20K ago with mineral Mobil ATF by my local indy. What are your thoughts?

Welcome to the "flaring transmission" club.

Seriously, I'm sorry to hear about this as I've been battling it for a half year.

Other than the easy stuff (fluids & vacuum hoses fallen off), you might find this article helpful.

Thanks, Diesel Don. It sounds like I need a vacuum adjustment and not a new trans.

What do you think - am I causing damage to the trans now? Can I wait 10K until my next trans service is due to have it adjusted?

Slowmoe:

My experience was the opposite of Tank's. Under hard acceleration my tranny would never slip. This bothered me however on the first take off of the morning (cold engine).

When these cars (are you talking about your '92? not sure its the same as mine) accelerate, vacuum is supposed to fall off. Sometimes it doesn't bleed off enough vacuum and therefore causes the tranny to slip.

When mine was slipping alot, I just kind of eased it into gear by backing off the accelerator so as not to exaggerate the problem.

As far as hurting the tranny, I'm not sure but my guess is no.

Don,

I am talking about my 92. I am not sure if has the same trans as the 123 or not. Like you, I only notice the flare on the light excelleration.

I am considering suctioning out the current ATF and replacing with Mobil1??? I don't know...
