Need some opinions with a non-MB!

Hey guys, you have been extremely helpful with my MB. I now have a problem with my Jeep that I guess is more serious than I thought. Last fall it started doing this thing where when it was cold (first start up in the morning, below 40F) it would not want to shift from 2nd to 3rd unless I let off of the gas pedal ever so slightly. It stopped doing it when the weather warmed up and I kinda forgot about it. Now that it's cold again it has come back. I took the thing in for recall work and also had them address this transmission problem. They said it's dried out seals that are not allowing the correct pressure in the transmission. They also said that while they're in there they might as well replace the torque convertor (WHAT?!) because of the mileage. 79K roughly... A new torque convertor at 79K? I am weary of doing this, I didn't have them do anything to the tranny, since it's going to be onwards up to 2,000 bucks. Blue book value of its current condition is about 4500 bucks. I'm not about to drop 2 grand into a 4500 dollar car. If I get the transmission all fixed the blue book value goes up to a whole whopping 5100 bucks. Spend 2 grand to get 1... I don't think so.

Right now the jeep is my old man's. He can't decide whether to get it fixed and keep it, or trade it in on a new car... or a newer used car. The jeep already needed a new water pump this year, the tires are still great, battery is only a year or 2 old, all fluids were flushed a year ago, interior is pretty clean (could use a detailing...), and other than this shifting thing it runs perfect.

What would you do?

Thanks for reading all this. !

I would suggest just keeping the fluid/filter changed at recommended intervals and drive it till it quits.
