Red brake warning light
Now I have a new problem. The red brake light will come on and the only way to get it to go off is to push the little black button on top of the master cyl. reservoir. There are two of these buttons, the front one is the problem. Didn't have it before I replaced the rt. caliper and flushed the system with new fluid. Had a bit to much fluid after doing the flush and fill so I removed some to the max line. This has helped but if I hit a bump it will come back on and may go off without pushing the button. Brakes work fine and the peddle does not travel to far or not hold pressure so I don't think it's a problem with the system. Is this a bad sensor or is there a pressure differential warning on this car that could set it off? (83 300d)

Anybody got an idea?
Anyone have an idea why this light keeps coming on and off? Brakes work as they always have. No pattern to the when the light comes on, sometimes when I hit the brakes, sometimes when just going down the road. No leaks, not low on fluid. Started after flushing the system and replacing a bad rotor. All pads both front and rear are new.

Maybe you have a bad float on the front one. That would cause your problem or maybe the shaft is slightly bent on the front float. Sounds like a float problem.

Are you sure that the small front reservoir section is filled? It is easy to look and think that the front is as full as the back when it is not.
Good luck, |

positive it is full to the max fill mark. After doing the front caliper replacement I used a large syringe to suck the reservoir empty and filled it with new fluid. Then I hooked up a power bleeder to flush the system clean. After I was done it was above the max fill line and the light would come and go. So I removed fluid to the max line. I don't know if the 15# of pressure from the power bleeder may have forced fluid into the sensor and caused problems or not. I just know the brakes work like always and the peddle holds steady, no excessive travel or loss of pressure when I hold it down like a bad master cylinder or leaking system would give you. I will give it a few days and if the spontaneous repair elves don't fix it I will order a new reservoir.

Greetings,
While you're waiting for the elves to fix your problem, try and bleed your entire system again manually. It' possible that there is still air in the system regardless of pedal feel. If you emptied your reservoir then refilled it, then there a chance you allowed air into the lines. I usually flush the old fluid out of the system through the lines while bleeding and add new as the level drops to keep fluid in the lines at all times. Just a thought, plus the elves might help on this one Charles
