Checking an '80 300sd Opinions, Please

Lots of potential issues but theprice is right....

Minor rust spots around the sunroof, it also binds on closing unless you push up on the front edge where it seem to be catching. Motor is still heard to be running while roof does not move...

Idles smooth enough but when you touch the #3 injector line it really pulses (more than the others) and when in gear it rocks the car. Owner has a new motor mount but I'm trying to get reassurance that this will fix this rocking at idle...

Climate control is non-funtional in that the control unit appears to be bad. You can only get defrost at the moment. PO said that he pulled the unit out and tried to fix it himself meaning it needs to be relaced. Any ideas on availabilty and costs?

Tach is non-functonal - hard fix or ...?
Also fuel guage is noted as possibly being non-functional...

Minor dings on the wood inside. is this stuff available aftermarket or in junk yards?

Rear seats sag pretty bad, padding or???

Under strong acceleration in 3rd gear car blows a cloud but not as bad as my 240...

Tranny shifts very smoothly and turbo boost is very cool, for those of us used to 240's..

Thanks in advance for your input on this vehicle. the price is under a thousand so if the motor checks out I may just get it but as always I thought I might check on these other items with the wisdom here...

A/C Servo's should run somewhere around $400 new, and a lot less used or rebuilt. I have a trick that I used with my car, but it sounds like this one might be too far gone.

The fuel gauge might be an easy fix with some Diesel Purge in the tank. I did this when I first got my car, and it losened up the sending unit.

In some of the 116's an adhesive spray was used in the construction of the seats. One particular type of adhesive that MB used turned out to be a bit caustic; it destroys the horsehair padding. I went to the junkyard and pulled replacement seats for $10. I installed the old upholstery over the new(new to me) guts. Worked out well.
By far the best driver od the 617 crowd, IMHO. Quick, nimble, handsome and big. And my car's no slouch either...nyuck...
