I use is all year, at every fill up in the winter, and every 2-3 in the summer.

BG 44K

I will swear by BG 44K. It fixed the knocking caused by a fouled injector.

My mechanic and Mercedes recommends doing it every oil change, so i do. It's $15 and hard to find, but the dealer sells it. I add the whole bottle to a full tank of 47 cetane.

cheers
eric

I only use it when it's cold/too much rain...
my half gallon of Power Service has some gel/jelly stuff in the cap(since FEB i used it)...I wonder if it is good for cars in storage.

In the summer I use an additive that cleans the injectors..
In the winter the fuel changes, so I add Hawes Diesel Treat or Kleen Flo to compensate for the reduction in the sulphur content in the fuel. These additives assist in lubricating the IP. Winter fuel is formulated differently to aid in cold weather starting, and some lubricants are reduced to enhance volatility, as has been explained to me.
Here in BC we have provincial government mandatory "Air Care" testing of all vehicles (California North!) and they test opacity in diesels. My 250000 mile 300D emitted only 40% of the amount of opacity that is deemed to be the maximum allowable. I have not replaced injectors or glow plugs in several years. I attribute the general smokelessness and good emission test results to my regular use of additives, and almost daily fast highway driving.

I use a couple ounces of Marvel Mystery oil, and a couple of Diesel Kleen octane booster etc. at each filling.
I want to try the BK44 but can't part with the $ right now.(its arould $18-20 per can around here North VA)

I add Power Service in the winter, just to give it the extra help. Car sits outside in driveway and plugs into a timer that even works sometimes. Probably doesn't need additive since most fuel I get is at Flying J truck stop and they seem to add conditioner as soon as it starts getting cold. Had injectors crack tested recently and one disassembled. Shop was impressed with how good it looked. Said I must be running very good fuel. No crude, no wear. I do run a can of diesel purge through the system about once a year.

Religiously use Redline DFC all year round, and I add a glug or two of Power Service in the winter time.
