Now that would be cool. Gota admit I have admired those sportie little SLs and with a 617 diesel, ya that would be very cool. I will be interisted to see if anyone has any knowlade of such a transplant. With a 4 or 5 speed manual too?

I THINK YOUR RIGHT IT WOULD BE THE IDEAL SET-UP TO HAVE A 5-SPD ON THE BACK OF THIS THING BUT I'VE GOT THE AUTO SO THATS WHATS GOING IN .I KNOW THAT SOMEONE HAS PUT A 240 IN AN SL W/A SUPERCHARGER IT CAN BE DONE .. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE VALVE COVER MIGHT HIT THE HOOD IN THE FRONT I REALLY DON'T WANT TO MODIFY THE HOOD.

Diesel engine too tall, and likely WAY too heavy...

for the SL chassis. It WOULD be interesting if a diesel could be installed into one of the big mid-'60s convertibles.
