Well I am one of the newbies. I am trying to make some inteligent posts.
I am a long time member of http://www.vintage-mustang.com/ My son wanted a classic car. But get this. I offered to split the cost for a 71 280SL. I would rebuild it and he could drive it all he wanted. His quote was. "Dad that's your idea of a sportscar, not mine" So we rebuilt a 1965 Mustang Fastback. If it wasn't for the Vintage-mustang.com I would have lost it. We rebuilt everything and did it in 2 years. Now if I'm going to put that kind of blood sweat and tears into project it will be exactly what I want. Either a 71 280SE, or a 190SL. Speaking of blood sweat and tears the best part of working with my son in the garage for 2 years was we figured out what music we could listen to togeather. Classic rock and roll. The Mustng is very cheap to rebuild. You can buy 97% of a 64.5-68 Mustang in repo parts. And the cost of parts are nothing like Mercedes. BUT!!! the quality is not the same. I was made fun of as a new poster on the Mustang forum when I asked about the fit and finish of various parts. Pushing, Forcing and making something fit are a part of the Mustang restorers language. Welding is also a requirement. Surfing VMF for 2.5 years . I found that the amount of participation varies and ebs and flows with time. Right now on the VMF a lot of flaming is going on. Tthis will subside in a couple of weeks. VMF is not set up like this Forum. This one is much better. VMF only has one post area and Off Topics as well as Mustang topics are thrown in all together. The ability to chose your area is sort of nice. The url set up is also nice. We have to add the { url} etc to make the line a clickable link. This site is much more advanced. One thing we do use is a short cut list that has become second nature on VMF http://www.mackrafab.com/vmf_lingo.htm I am very happy to have found this site. So far I really like what I have read. I am just starting to rebuild the 82 300TD and will keep the 560SL going forever. The info on the E300TD has been very helpful and supportive. Over the next couple of years I'm sure I will make numerous posts and replies. Dave
