Mine is one causing *more* discussion on the board currently. (99 E300TD Cuts Out)

White 99 with 109K, driven 30 miles last 3 weeks. Died countless times but always at a *good* location.

Parchment leather, bose heavy tint.

FYI- the replacement of the fuel lines is easy from the top side if you move the windsheild washer up out of the way. Took one lazy hour to R & R all including taking time out to go in the house 3 times to clam an impatient 5 y/o.

Now waiting arrival of the fuel shut off relay module from the dealer. Wont have til Tue so is my turn to be impatient hoping this will be the end of my problems.

John, glad to see your post. I saw you about a month ago driving down Rt. 1 towards 110/395. I'm glad to hear that all is well with the car.

Sorry I missed seeing you. As for the car, I have it up to 75,000 and she is running well. I recently replaced the glow plugs and some brakes. Other than that, all is well.

I see from your signature that you are now driving a 300. Congrats.

I am looking for another one for my bride.

I feel like a real newbie. I purchased a 1996 E300 about 2 months ago. It's got 122,000 miles, but I'm really impressed with the car. My first MB and I love it (my second diesel, after buying a VW Rabbit pickup in 1982 - a nasty little car). White over parchment MB-Tex, sunroof, cd-player. I wish I had heated seats.

So far, one fan belt replaced and four Nokian snow tires. I'm lurking at this site on a regular basis looking for issues and other info. I'm going to try some B-20 in it this spring (when and if Bell Fuels opens their B-20 pump again).

You should also look into the EGR and CCV mods that are possible to these OM606 non-turbo engines. You'd be surprised at the amount of vapor out of the CCV system. At least my vapors smell like D1, and no longer build up in the intake system :-) I wonder if this CCV mod will reduce the tendency people have of glow plugs getting stuck in the head once unscrewed. The CCV vents right at the end of the intake tract, right before the pre-chamber, if I said that properly. Reducing the overall gunk that builds up, hardens and causes problems.
I posted a thread about it this weekend so it should still be current...

And no, I don't sniff them, just took a whifffff once

I got a 97 E300 non turbo diesel (purchased 7/96) and I am the original owner. 96k miles black with parchment. Synthetic since second oil change. I will test the synthetic theory on this car. I plan to keep it a long, long time, since where I live in Central Florida, there is no rust on decent cars. In fact I have the original lower bushings since there are no potholes or bad roads where I drive. Mostly driven 55-80 mph. I average 63 mph driving to Wash DC a couple times a year, driving straight through 14 hours. The best touring car I ever had. (In fact I twice beat the time it takes to travel by air point to point) The car loves continous duty. My wife drives it one way - pedal to the metal and it still gets 30 mpg.

In the United States, the turbocharged version was only offered for 1998 and 1999. 174 hp and 246 lb-ft. I don't know the power figures for the non-turbo.

go to www.mbusa.com

go under starmarked then model overview... you will find all info you ever needed.

Does anyone know what MB means by "Net Power"? I assum that means RWHP and RWTorque firgues, crank minus drivetrain losses.

Cool

Mine is a 97, Midnight Blue with parchment leather. Currently it is at 109,000. Had the trans fluid done at 90K, and all oil changes have been at 3K using Mobile 15/40 non synthetic.
The only problems have been stuck resonance flaps (4 times) and fuel leaks at the injection pump (3 times, one being a major rupture that sprayed fuel everywhere). Glow plugs were done at 100K after check engine light showed code for plugs.
Front brakes were done once at 56K and rears are still original.
Its a pretty nice car, much better in the interior and heating/AC department than the 124's.
I really don't know what's with the fuel leaks though. I think there is a design/material problem lurking here.

Beach,
Interesting you had the Injection pump hoses replaced. I recently did also. The hoses turned dark and I had a leak. Turned out the Shutoff module lso had a small leak in the weep hole. I replaced it all.

Interesting that the new hoses have different lock on connectors from what was used in 96. They look more substantial than the originals.

Cool

There must be a common problem with the O rings/hoses and fuel shutoff. My shutoff was leaking too. When I asked the dealer about similar problems they had seen, they said there had been none. The service advisor asked me if I used any kind of fuel suppliment, which implies that I caused the problem. I don't use any by the way.
My 95 E300 which has the same engine, was in 2 times for this same problem and now a third time with its new owner, a friend of mine--still is a friend I think?
