96-99 W210 Diesel Roll Call

These have been getting more attention on the board lately, so I thought we'd find out who has them.

Mine is Brilliant Silver over gray, ordered 4/99, delivered 6/7/99. Just clicked over 80,000 miles. It has the moonroof/Bose stereo option. I added a Becker CD changer, headlight rings, and reflective window tint - a must in Florida.

I have a 1998. It's brilliant silver over grey MB-Tex. Just rolled 50K miles last week. It has moonroof, CD changer, and used to have the MB telephone, which I've removed.

My car is actually the press fleet car MBNA used to introduced this model to the U.S. It was put into service in August 1997 and had 8K miles when I purchased it in May 1998. As such I can claim to own the very first E300 turbodiesel in North America. Big Whoopee.

I ordered a Midnight Blue one in early '96, took delivery in April '96. It had all options including Xenon, integrated phone, heated, orthopedic seats, etc., etc. I drove it almost 80,000 miles and sold it in early '98.

The car was one of the first in our area, and once it displayed the resonance flap problem it was a huge problem getting it fixed. They finally brought in a tech rep and drove the car around with computers connected until they experienced the problem. It seems that after that they were able to fix that for others with no trouble.

The car was a really great car and I enjoyed it very much. The only thing that could have made it better would have been a manual transmission. Since that time I have ridden in several taxis in Europe that were the same basic car with a manual transmission. What a great car that would be.

Enjoy your 210's,

My car is a 99 E300 Brilliant silver/charcoal black. Bought it from first owner with 24,000, now has 41,500. First owner bought it in Chicago and luckily for me, he ordered heated seats(now a must in any future car).

I purchased my 1998 E300 in September 2002 with 31,000 miles. I am up to 41,000 with no problems. I use as my daily driver for my 130 mile round trip daily commute.

Bought my 1998 E300 TD in January, 2000, with 11,400 miles......now has 44k nearly trouble free miles. It is brilliant silver with many options and has a perfect body. I have to say, I still enjoy driving it every single day!

Bought our 1999 E300 Turbo Diesel in June of 1999. It was the last one that the dealer in Temple, Texas was getting and it was still on the boat.
I found, bought , financed, and paid for the car all on the phone. The first time I met the dealer was when I picked up the car. They were really great in Temple. The DFW dealers would not negotiate at all. The saleswomen at Park Place Midcities even told me that I could not buy it from another dealer. "Mercedes does not allow that, I had to buy it from the closest dealer." I looked at her in shock and asked when our country had become a socialistic state? Of course that was when I walked out. I did show her the nice new E300 that I bought at another dealer when I got it.
We have 59,000 miles on it. Its white with parchment interiors. Sunroof and I added the CD player.

Glad to read about some owners who have not had any problems with their cars. Hopefully that means I can get all the bugs out of this car.

Dave

PS I don't have a picture of the car that I can link to. BUT if you look at the post, two above It looks just like that. But I don't park it there and My garage is in the back, not in the front. And its sunny here, And my right parking light is burnt out. Otherwise its just like that one. *G*

double pleasure

I've had two of these beauties. Am still hoping MB will come to their senses and bring CDIs to US.

My white one had integrated phone.
Smoke Silver has leather but no phone.
Both are 98s.

1998 E 300, Delivered Sept. 1997
Broke the 100,000 mark this week!
Hasn't been exactly trouble free-
-Both headlamp wiring harness' had to be replaced in first 18 mo's.
-Alternator went kaput.
-Sun Roof in shop 4 times
-Window switches replaced on two doors.
-Glow Plugs at 60k
-Now, tranny modulator is not working properly, causing slow shifting.

Recently replaced shock, struts and put on 3rd set of tires, rides like new now. Also replaced frt rotors and pads, and brake fluid, which I did in my bus companys' shop myself. (Excellent wear, over 80,000 miles on frt brakes)

I fill the 300's tank out of my 10,000 gallon diesel tank at my Indianapolis terminal...

1999 E300

Purchased my brilliant silver over gray E300 new in Aug 99. I use it to drive back and forth from Key West FL to Niceville FL, a distance of about 800 miles. I make that trip about once every other month and now have 52K miles on her. Very comfortable on long trips and averages 32-34 mpg at 75 mph. I tinted the windows shortly after I purchased it and am on my second set of tires. No major maintenance problems thus far (keeping my fingers crossed about those glow plugs!)

Mine is a 1998 E300 TurboDiesel, on the verge of breaking the 60,000 mile mark. I purchased it just over a year ago with 41,500 miles. Briliant silver with grey leather, aftermarket CD player from Panasonic. To date the main issues I have had are with the front seats clicking when the car transitions from acceleration to decelleration or the reverse. Took a while and two tries on the driver's side, but the fix seems to have worked. I have had no glow plug problems, but did have the mass airflow sensor replaced.

I believe the previous owner did not use synthetic oil, although I am not able to tell from the records I got. It was maintained by the flexible service system though, which made me nervous. I switched to Delvac 1 oil, and recently had the 60,000 mile service done. I had the transmission oil changed as an extra precaution. I am also seeing some accelerated light bulb failures, and the service guy said they will change out the boards the lights plug into as there is a modification to that part on later models to address the rapid bulb burn out. When it happens I will post more details. I just mentioned it in passing when I picked the car up and they volunteered the fact that the problem is a known one and a fix is available.

Overall I think the car is great. It gets 30 mpg and is not a slug, which is a pleasant change for Diesels. My Christmas present this year was some new wheels and tires - my son influenced the process when I announced it was time to buy tires as the Continentals were not suitable for another Winter. He had my wife order some Carlsson 18 inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport AS tires. The car looks great with the new wheels, and handles like it was on rails.

Glad to hear some of these cars are solid running machines. Some of the electrical stuff seems to be troublesome on these cars, BMWs, Audis and other cars too. I would like a manual transmission and the choice of whether or not I get all these electronic goodies. Wind up windows, simple air conditioning or no air conditioning, manual seat adjustments, and so on would just add to the longevity and reliability.

Jim

I have a 96 E300 with 89K on it. I purchased it from the origional owner last summer with 66K on it.

So far, I have replaced front lower ball joints, fan belt and tensioner shock, and various components in the fuel system trying to track down a cold start issue - thanks to all who have helped so far.... the saga continues...

This spring I will be doing my second trans service and probably front brakes and rotors.

The car has leather, heated seats, CD player, and the rear blind.

I wonder if there is a way to have a forum on this page for just the 124 and 210 diesel owners. I brought this up before and there seemed to be some interest. How do we do this?
