Althought it would be nice to take it to a Bosch shop for calibration, a different ALDA should be set close enough where you can just swap them. I think the ALDA bosy needs a 24mm wrench, and use ChannelLocks or an adjustable on the brass nut underneath. Then it just spins off. Orientation won't matter. Try driving the car like Adam said, but if the IP is calibrated properly, the car *should* run like crap with no ALDA (very rich - no power, massive black smoke). I've heard of people unable to drive their cars (couldn't go over 20mph) until the ALDA was replaced.
Adam, what's the 0-60 time on your car (throttle pinned, flat road, timed with stopwatch)?? |

I did my speed test and the results averaged out to 13.9 seconds after three runs on a flat road, full tank of 40 cetane fuel with 12 ounces of DFS, and my new 230 pound Ridgid jointer/ planer in the trunk (the x-mas gift from me to me).
The results were consistant with what I was getting before ALDA removal with the same amount of almost imperceptable smoke. I think, rather I am sure the fact that I have a Cali model with the Oxi catylist perhaps scrubs and filters the smoke that would be there, but if it is so much richer, why is my fuel economy still so good with no change? hmmm... In regard to the orientation of the ALDA, I would position it such that the plastic tubing lines up with the outlet hole, even though functionally it won't affect the performance of the ALDA, the alignment I believe is important b/c of the unwillingness of that old plastic to bend. How did it work out for you? did you get it back together yet? Thanks, Adam |
